Prices for groomsmen suits & how to tell them they need to pay for their own?

Jordan, on December 8, 2019 at 8:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

We have 5 groomsmen in the wedding and my father will be attending as well, so we would need a total of 7 suites. We were quoted for renting the suits about $230.00 per person. I thought that was a lot considering the bridesmaids dresses are only around $120.00 for buying and they are really nice. Is that an average price for suits?

Also I am pretty sure the groomsmen know they are supposed to pay for their own suites, but how do i mention that just to make sure they know and make sure the price is okay with them?

We got ours from Men's Wearhouse and are paying about the same. FH told them the group number and to go in and get fitted. I think it was implied that they would pay, not sure he mentioned it to them at all.

We got ours from Mens Wearhouse and were told it would be $170. As far as them paying, I think it is something they just know they're suppose to do. FH has been in two weddings in the past two years and it was never a question about if he had to pay or not. Mens Wearhouse offers payment plans if they cant pay all upfront. My BM's weren't given that option.

Daughter and SIL used Black Tux, they are online, but have a partnership with Nordstrom for in-store measurements, etc. They were VERY happy. I think the guys paid just over $100 for their suits. Daughter bought their shirts at Kohl's during a Father's Day sale and with coupons & discounts paid $6 a piece for long-sleeved white dress shirts. They all wore their own black shoes. It was easy and much less expensive than Men's Warehouse.

We got tuxes from Men's Warehouse, but they were awful to deal with. They were approximately the same amount you were quoted. I think it was just implied that they would pay for them. My husband wanted to go with as many of his groomsmen as possible for measurements and they each paid. There was never really a discussion about it to my knowledge.

You should have your FH ask them what their budget is for a tux. That tells them that they are paying and tells you how much they’re comfortable spending.

I wouldn't go in there and make it sound like those are their only tux options. Talk to them about budget, do more shopping, and find a price that works for everyone Smiley smile

I’m not sure where you got your quote from but we found better pricing with a local tux rental shop rather than the big name places. But it probably depends on location. Like PPs said, shop around to see who can give you a good deal. My FH just told the guys we weren’t paying for theirs because we’re paying for our entire wedding and they understood completely.

We used GenTux. It's an online rental service, each tux was $100 because we let them wear their own white button down, own belt, and own shoes. We supplied the tie & pocket square.
