Pre cana classes - Did you do one and what was your experience?

dsta0125, on February 22, 2016 at 1:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

My FH and I are getting married in a Catholic church and we have to do a pre-cana class where we discuss various topics. We are doing the course online due to scheduling conflicts. Has anyone else done the pre-cana classes? If so, what was your experience like and do you feel that was beneficial when beginning a marriage?

For some reason I am really nervous about it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

We did the engaged encounter weekend! It was wonderful! It talked about a lot of the topics we have discussed as a couple before, such as finances, children, etc. I definitely felt it was beneficial because it helped us talk deeper about certain issues that came up in the past!

My FH & I did it, it's actually fun and you will look tons about each other. I think it's great for everyone to at least try it, we enjoyed it and it did help us learn each other's view on building a future together.

We did it and it was great, you basically just talk with your partner a ton about different marriage related topics. There's nothing to be worried about!

FI and I did ours in January and it was a pretty positive experience! I'd actually recommend NOT doing it online if it's logistically possible, because I don't think we would have taken it as seriously had we not been in a bigger group. If online is the only option, definitely try to clear those days completely and really focus on each other during the sessions. The advice isn't anything groundbreaking, but it definitely provides a platform to start important discussions you may have avoided in the past. Don't be nervous, enjoy it!

We are doing ours in a month or so, but I'm kind of looking forward to it. I guess if nothing else, I might find out something new about my FH.

Thank you for the encouragement everyone Smiley smile Not sure why I am feeling nervous.

I would love to go to an in-person class, but unfortunately, my FH's work schedule is not flexible and every day that the in-person classes are offered he is working and cannot get time off to go.

I did it and loved it! It was a small group, but we got to speak to a lot of married couples and get advice and insight into married life. We didn't talk about anything we hadn't previously discussed, but it still solidified everything even more for us and made us more excited to get married.

We did the day class...it honestly seemed pointless. I felt it was a day of getting lectured, not really on ways to enrich our marriage. It was a weird class and not really what we expected.

Most of it was the lecturer going through the first couple ten commandments, talking about his marriage, and then the family planning video...we left there weirded out.
