Postponing your wedding? *fall/winter weddings*

Jennifer, on July 1, 2020 at 9:32 AM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 14
Hey everyone,
So my wedding date is set for 10/23/20 in PA and I’m really starting to consider rescheduling..
My future husband is from Ireland so half of our guests are going to be traveling from Europe. And there is a travel ban for all of Europe at the moment into the US. We are now thinking of maybe pushing our wedding back to 3/20/21. Is anyone else in a similar situation? Are you holding tight for your original date or have you rescheduled?I have no idea what to do!!

From the daily posts of similar questions and as one who has a 10/10 wedding - Most of us are keeping our dates and moving forward with plans.

My two other family weddings in PA just got canceled yesterday. Ours is November 21st in coastal Virginia and we are still moving forward as planned. We had a small planned wedding from the start. We only invited 60 people because so many folks are from out of state. Then covid struck and I’m grateful that we weren’t planning on having a larger wedding like my aunt, who was inviting 150+ people.
The only way we are not having our wedding is if the state or venue prevents it from happening.
I figure if folks can’t afford to my it due to increased travel costs or are concerned for their health that we can virtually include them using one of the many available platforms.

Our wedding also involves international travel. We postponed our November date to May 2021. The hardest part is the travel restrictions! I am in Canada, and our restrictions are very slowly being lifted. Travel is allowed and countries are starting to let us in. Having said that I do believe with the extra travel around the world, that covid will spike again. I postponed for multiple reasons but after I did it I felt so much better. Your situation is a bit more difficult due the specific travel ban with Europe and the USA. I’m sorry you are having to deal with this. Is your venue a busy venue? One factor that I considered was available dates next year. Everything in 2021 will be busy. I was worried I wouldn’t get another date for 2021, which turned out to be a valid concern. Are the guests traveling concerned?

No matter what your day will be wonderful!

It doesn’t hurt to start reaching out to your vendors to see what dates they have available for 2021 in case you decide to postpone.

Like a PP stated there has been a ton of postponing for 2021. You may have to get a date that not in “wedding season” or a weekday.

I’m so sorry you had to reschedule! It’s such a difficult time..
yes, I just reached out to my future mother in law today and they are nervous about traveling to the US right now. And understandably so. Our wedding was only going to be 80-100 guests but with half coming from Ireland, I think we really need to consider postponing. We are looking at March 20,2021. They are pretty much booked out for all of spring/summer/fall next year. So March is looking like our new only option. I’m hoping by then things will be somewhat back to normal for international travel.

So true. I’m going to start sending out emails now to my vendors to get an idea of their availability. I’m scared if we wait too long to postpone there won’t be anything available for 2021

We were 10/10/20 and postponed a year to 10/2/21. Although we didn’t have international travel, we are having a domestic destination wedding with all of us needing to travel to Vegas (90% only from SoCal. 10% from the east). But with cases rising, guidelines placed on events/gatherings and states only newly reopening without knowing how that will turn out... we had to make the decision to postpone. We couldn’t ask guests to spend money traveling... yet not be able to host a proper 3-day wedding weekend when they arrive. So we needed to give guests enough heads up. However, if our wedding was a single day and local event, we would have moved forward with it.

I understand! I had those same thoughts before we postponed. Our weddings shouldn’t be this stressful 😫

    Best wishes!

Hi Jennifer! The international travel element definitely complicates things! I know there are travel restrictions and mandatory quarantines on both sides of that trip right now!

Here are a few other discussions you can check out from fall PA couples, but I think your international travel factor will be the most important when making your decision:

    Thanks for sending those over!
Yes the travel restrictions are really worrying us. And the way things are going I don’t think they will be lifted anytime soon

Almost identical - October 24 wedding, fiance from England! We're heavily leaning towards a small wedding with just family / bridal party (dependant on travel restrictions) and postponing the full reception to fall of 2021.

Hey Corinne! Sorry to hear you had to change plans. We just decided to postpone ourselves to March 20, 2021.
It’s just so uncertain right now with international travel we didn’t want to risk it.

We keep saying how much more excited our guests will be to finally get to party without masks or social distancing by pushing off - I hope you feel the same way!

We are 10/4/20 in Bucks County, and our venue told us to continue planning that we won’t have to postpone again. Our original date was in May, and with only 88 days left I’m just about to send out new invites and start making final purchases. I hope everything works out for you!
