Postponing Wedding and Gifts You’ve received

Mandi, on March 13, 2020 at 12:19 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hi all. Today we made the hard decision to postpone our wedding because we are in the greater Seattle area. We have already received cash gifts towards our honeymoon. Do we offer to give the money back? Or do we just not bring it up?

I wouldn’t give it back because you postponed your wedding. It’s still a gift to you for your new beginning together. Send a thank you card or note though.

Don't give it back just send a thank you card. It is still a gift and I am sure they will understand why the wedding is being postponed.

I have this question as well!

I postponed by wedding by a year, since its so far away should I return cash gifts?

I wouldn’t return it since you’re not actually calling off the wedding, just postponing it. Send a thank you and carry on as usual.

If you are still getting married and have just postponed things, then there is no need to send the gift back. Send a thank you card though, and be sure that no one feels obligated to give you another gift when the wedding actually happens.

Don't return it unless you actually cancel your wedding, but don't spend it either.
