Postponement question due to Covid-19 May 2 wedding

Jannie, on April 28, 2020 at 10:26 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

Hey Guys,

So unfortunely I already canceled my May 02, 2020 destination wedding to Dominican Republic. I am now looking into doing my wedding where I live in CT since im pretty sure even after this pandamic is over, many of my guests would be afraid to travel. Im looking into venues around me for September/October/ November dates.

-My original wedding dress is a very summery, open back lace dress. What should I do if I have a fall wedding? Continue with it or try to sell it and get a more appropiate fall dress? I actually had taken my dress to Davids Bridal in March to get it altered, so what can I do with it now?

-Also, I am afraid that by the fall things wont get better and I would have to reschedule with my guests, which I really dont want to do. If I book a date lets say in October now, when should I send my guests new invitations with the new plans? For a destination wedding, usually you have to send the invites 9-12 months out so everyone can prepare, how does it go for receptions at home? Im hoping I can have a better picture by end of summer to give my guests two months notice, is that too little time?

Thank you for your help guys!

Can you post a picture of your dress?😊 I would send a mass email with your wedding website (if you have one) saying to check your wedding website for updates. That way you don’t have to spend $ on new invites if you decide not to have it in October either. Usually invites are sent out 6-8 weeks in advance😊

This is the dress I got. What do you think?

I was thinking of a mass email but a-lot of my guests are older who don't use email. I also feel since everything will be completely change (venue, location, etc) so I don't mind sending invites again, I just don't want to send and then have to postpone once again.

I wouldn't book anything for the fall. The second wave is expected to hit harder in late September.

Love your dress!! Truthfully I don’t think it really matters, if you love your dress and feel comfortable then wear it!! And no one knows what’s going to happen in the next few months. Everyone keeps talking about this 2nd wave but no one actually knows if that’s even true. I hope you enjoy your day!!😊

    Hi Jannie,

I'm so sorry to hear that you had to cancel your destination wedding in the DR. Smiley sad Your dress is gorgeous!!! I agree with the PP from Morgan (x2). If you still love your dress, you should wear it! If you want to change it up, try to resell it and get another one.

For September weddings and beyond, the current consensus is that it's too soon to panic. Also, on the whole, it seems like couples are choosing to communicate their wedding plan changes or new dates in many different ways. If you're not opposed to sending new invitations, then go for it! I also think directing your guests to a website for the most up-to-date information could be helpful. That way, you can post real-time updates just in case anything else changes (hopefully not!).

Here are some existing discussions with other brides with various ideas/suggestions:

    - Postponed Wedding Invites?

    - Change of date cards

    - Coronavirus Postpone Announcement

I'm wishing you the best of luck! Smiley heart
