Postponed Wedding - Now What?

Leah, on March 17, 2020 at 12:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hi there! We had a wedding date of 4.18.2020 and with the amount of people traveling we have made the difficult decision to postpone.

While we are still working with the venue and vendors about a new date I wanted to get opinions about still getting married on our date.
We were going to have a Jewish wedding with the Rabbi at my synagogue marry us. We have our Ketubah ready to go! Our thought was to still get married with our witnesses and Rabbi that day and having the reception on our newly rescheduled date.
If you were a guest, would you be annoyed going to a reception knowing the couple already got married in this situation? We could maybe have a “ceremony” still, but we’d ideally be legally married by then. Is this silly?
Looking for any and all advice!! Stay well all!!

Our wedding was supposed to be 4/25 but we decided to postpone. Our new date is September 13th. We still plan on getting married on our original date with just a few people at my parents house. I personally don’t think guests would be annoyed, especially given the circumstances. We will have a ceremony at our later date as well. And honestly, I don’t care if people don’t like that. Our original date is special to us but we also want everyone there. So I guess the new date will be kind of like a vow renewal. But don’t worry about it...you should do whatever makes YOU happy.

I agree with pp. No one expected this, not even me. I think times like these, people are being very understanding. I say you do what makes you happy. Right now, you need to find some happiness in this crazy world.

Not silly at all, and no--I don't think guests would be annoyed whatsoever. In fact, I actually know another couple who is doing the exact same thing (partially due to the fact that they spent a lot of money on a custom made ketubah with the date already written in...) New date is postponed to September, but they're still signing the actual thing with the rabbi and witnesses on their original date in April. The rabbi will be conducting a revised version of the ceremony on their new date in September.

If your guests are reasonable they will understand. Just be honest with everyone
