Postponed twice. Womp womp. Need advice

on July 24, 2020 at 10:16 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5
So we had 6/13/20. Postponed to 8/29. Postponed. Our venue isn’t even open yet. Well it is what it is but our 6 year anniversary is 8/11 and we decided to get hitched in our backyard. Just us. I do feel bad that I want it to be just us because we postponed to 6/12/21 and everyone will be there!! Am I overthinking this? Just want it to be romantic and small since we’re doing the whole wedding next year. My mother and MIL will be there when we get our license on Monday. Do I need witnesses at our 8/11 date? Ahh

I think legally you do need at least once witness, depending on state laws. I also think everyone should have the wedding they want, but I would have a heart-to-heart with your mothers about it because they likely have been looking forward to your wedding day since you were babies.

Whether or not you need witnesses depends on your state.

The PPs are right, check your state requirements. If FH and I have to postpone, it will just be us and our kids getting married on our date (in CO we don’t need an officiant our witnesses). My mom is disappointed but she understands. I hope 2021 works out for you!

I don't think you're overthinking necessarily, it's natural to wonder if you're doing the right thing. Our 8 year anniversary was 7/11 and we tried to get our license in time to get married then but couldn't. Our wedding was supposed to be on 8/16 but we had to postpone - however, we are still getting legally married on that date with our officiant and my MOH as the witness/photographer. We would ideally want our family there, but his family's out of state and we don't want to put anyone in danger. So we're getting married as planned by ourselves, and will celebrate with all our loved ones next year. It's pretty awesome to get to celebrate your marriage in 2 completely different ways (only upside I can find to getting our dream wedding postponed) And as for the witnesses, like PP said, it varies by state.

Thank you all! We decided to just have our moms there. My sister was pretty bummed out about it but it is what it is I guess. I’m such an over thinker and don’t wanna hurt peoples feelings but we’re going to do it again next June
