Postponed my March 21 wedding

Gabi, on March 14, 2020 at 12:42 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17
It has been emotional turmoil these past couple of days. Just a handful of days ago I was so excited that I was getting married in a week, for all the wedding preparations for the week of, and then everything falls apart in a matter of hours. My fiancé was mature enough to initiate a conversation about coronavirus concerns and our wedding, and ultimately we decided that we can’t go on with our original plans because of people flying from out of town and elderly folks contracting COVID-19.

I’m still emotional about all this, thankful that my fiancé and I are only growing stronger because of this.
We are postponing a proper celebration till the end of the year. Since this is a huge blow, we still want something to look forward to and will be having a small, intimate ceremony next Saturday. Anyone else planning on having a private ceremony still? Much love to all who are also going through this!

I’m sorry you had to postpone. I’m glad you are doing a small ceremony now though. That’s what is most important... that you are getting married.
Good luck to you and I’m sure you will have a beautiful celebration on a new date.

Hi there. I am so so sorry you are having to go through all of this and make this decision. My wedding is scheduled for that same day and my fiancé and I are taking a very similar approach. We haven’t selected a new date yet but plan to do our exact plans later in the year but not waiting to get married. We will be getting together with a small intimate group of family next weekend on our date to exchange vows. Such a hard decision but I wouldn’t be able to enjoy myself because I’d be constantly worried about family if we went through as planned

Our wedding is also March 21st and our vendors are canceling. No refunds. I’m devastated. So is our bank account.

Thanks for your kind words. This situation has been making me realize that I don’t need the big party and all the extra stuff, what matters to me the most is the symbolism of us getting married next weekend, the first day of spring and beginning our new lives together.

I’m so sorry, I know financially this is terrible. I don’t even want to think of the amount of money I’ve lost in all this, it’s really tough to have to deal with while still being emotional about your special day being cancelled. Hope you find strength, much love!

Meegan, my heart goes out to you. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I can only imagine how devastated you are.
Can I ask where you’re located? Where was your wedding supposed to take place? Were any of your vendors willing to reschedule?

Our wedding is next Sunday and we’re going through the same thing. We haven’t canceled as of yet because we wouldn’t get any money back and would be losing tens of thousands of dollars 😭 but all of our out of towners (so basically all extended family) have canceled in the past 24 hrs. To make matters worse, it’s now supposed to rain the entire next week (and we’re in LA... that NEVER happens). So even if we do end up going through with it, our plans have gone out the windows. It’s an absolute nightmare, I wish something would happen to give us a sign that we needed to cancel so we could put the “should we?” to bed. If we did cancel we wouldn’t postpone either, this has been too much of an emotional rollercoaster for me to go through it again. I just want to put this behind me. 😭

My fear is if you cancel, the vendors are off the hook financially. After reviewing the contracts, only our photographer put any stipulation regarding epidemic/pandemic (would love to hear the story behind that). It is a nightmare. I am sorry you are going through this too, @Emily. I share your tears right now. Sending you good vibes!

@Kristen We live in Lubbock, Texas but we are getting married in Fort Worth. The reception venue is Whiskey Ranch. We have rented the entire TX Whiskey distillery for our reception, not cheap. All vendors are willing to reschedule, but their dates do not coordinate with one another. I am going to try and find a silver lining in this by donating my nearly $6k worth of flowers to hospitals and nursing homes while staying cognizant of the virus.

Mine is the same day and we are still going strong.. our honeymoon however has been postponed because we were supposed to be cruising but after talking to my vendors we are still pushing forward. I think your idea is wonderful 💙 & I can’t wait to see pictures
