Post wedding snack: yay or nay

June, on March 4, 2014 at 11:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

I've been seeing weddings wear couples will have an easy, midnight, post wedding snack or light fare. I've certainly have left weddings hungry before; not because there wasn't enough food, but rather because I get so caught up in the libations I forget to eat enough. After drinking and dancing throughout an evening, you build up an appetite! I'm considering serving a midnight snack-- as the area where my wedding is doesn't really have options for late night food. I think who hasn't had a night of drinking and needed something to soak up all that alcohol!? But my WP and fiance they it may be too much food and will go wasted. So yay or nay... I can't decide.

We had a late night/midnight snack. Our caterer did smokies and a fruit platter. They were a huge hit and everyone liked having something to eat around 11:30 p.m. since our dinner was around 6:30 p.m. and our reception went until 2 a.m.

I've always seen late night pizza and sandwiches done.

My banquet manager told me they weren't worth it and that his crew usually ends up eating them because no one take them.

We plan on having a late night snack like a nacho bar maybe pizzas. I'm with you - I need a little something on my stomach after a night of drinking. What I never understood is the donuts/cookies + milk snacks. Ugh! Who drinks milk after alcohol??!

I'm considering this myself, but since we are having an after party, we are pretty positive that we're just going to crash a Denny's or an IHOP, lolol....

This way, those who are hungry will eat, those who aren't can still hang out, and since it's an "after the after party" deal, it doesn't end up being our cost to host. More of a "we want breakfast, who's down?!"...

We thought about having this too. We haven't decided yet, but our coordinator said if we do, just don't order for everyone because not everyone will eat it and some people will leave early too.

My friend did late night snacks at her wedding a few years back and said people went frickin nuts. We're very likely going to do one at ours, too. Probably frites!

We are having a burrata station for ours. Once the dancing (and drinking) gets going they will serve up a station of this fresh, gooey creamy cheese along with all the fixings. Roasted garlic, spicy red pepper jam, olive tapanades, etc.

We are also planning a later snack back at the vacation rental where the BP and the "cool kids" will adjourn too...still working on a menu for this part of the night. The FH is angling for pizza though...

You definitely don't order for everyone. Count on about 1/3-1/4 of your guest count for the late night snack. I think we had around 40-50 smokies for our 135 guest count.

We are having late night snacks but only for those who choose to stick around or are staying at the Inn. since there is not much open late where our wedding is being held at 4pm and dinner is to be served at 5:30pm and we will definitely be hungry ourselves once the "early birds" leave and the wedding is over at 10pm the plan is for everyone to get comfy and then head on in to the Inns bar since we have blocked the entire Inn for the night I am sure we will have it to ourselves as it is still off season. We will order mini sausage pepper & Onion sandwiches and some other "bar" snacks nachos, wings, etc,.

It is extra money and if folks don't eat then it is wasted. We launch our candy and cupcakes at around 10 pm. Hopefully if some are still hungry and they can get gummies lol.

We are doing this too! we have a famous late night/ drunken/ hangover meal called a garbage plate so we are doing a garbage plate station (with to go containers as well if people want to bring them home or up to their hotel room) Let me tell you , a plate is the most perfect drunk food ... you get your choice of cheesburgers or white/red hots on top of mac salad and either home fries or french fries then its covered in onions and meat hot sauce and ketchup. MmMmmm

I did this and it was a hit! We had empanadas, feta and spinach turnover, and Cuban potato balls, which are like fried balls of mashed potatoes filled with ground beef, they are so delicious. My guests gobbled them up because most of them had been drinking and dancing all night. If you know your guests well you should know whether or not they'll be drinking and dancing all night and will need a greasy snack midparty. If the majority aren't, I wouldn't spend the extra money.

We are doing this!!! I found a vendor who is going to do bacon-wrapped hot dogs for us at the end of this night and my venue will set up tables outside, so as people are waiting to be picked up or get on the bus back to the hotel they can snack on a hot dog!!! I think people who stick around will appreciate it bc theyre probably the ones who have been drinking all night! I'm def eating a hot dog in my wedding dress. Smiley smile

It depends on the guest list - if most people aren't going to drink much, and will head home early, it will likely be a waste.

We had snacks at the after-after party, which was something my sister organized in her hotel room. It sounded bizarre when she told me the menu during the day, but, "Hey, I've got fried chicken, doughnuts, and Gatorade in my room" sounds SPECTACULAR after six hours of drinking.

Yay! We're planning on providing some sort of food around midnight for sure. We haven't selected anything yet though but they also run a pub, so maybe some pub-style food?

You know your group better than anyone. You mention there are not a lot (or any) late night eating options where you are so that is a factor. What do you like to eat? We do a late night cheese steak bar that goes over well here. We do mini rolls so the portions don't have to be huge. We don't make for everyone attending since not everyone stays until the end. Do you have some local food everyone would want? Even if you did a table of snacky food, chips/dip, cheese board etc, it would give people something to nibble on.

It depends until when your reception ends and when dinner starts. I know most of us Canadian brides have weddings that lasts until 2 or 3 am depending on which province you're in. So we're definitely doing a midnight snack and were accounting for about half of our guests and I'm sure that will be plenty. We're doing a poutiine bar and guests can help themselves to our cookie buffet all night long.

Although if a reception ended very early like 11 PM or so I wouldn't bother.

We ended up at a bar with the guests who weren't ready to call it a night either. We didn't have any formal plans to do anything though.
