Plus Size Brides: What did you wear under your dress on the day?

Maggie, on June 20, 2019 at 1:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13

Hey all!

I did the thing and bought a strapless organza Justin Alexander gown with a monarch train that I'm SUPER pumped about. But now I'm agonizing on what kind of undergarments I need.

Above all else, I want to be comfortable and I'm getting a lot of conflicting advice. Curious as to what other plus size ladies have done under ballgowns that already cover and secure tummies, thighs, etc.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Cookie recipes? (Jk on the last one, unless you have a 🔥🔥🔥recipe that I need to make to help get me through the rest of planning)

I did a couple of things. First, I wore Spanx, to smooth out everything from my thighs to my abdomen. Second, I wore a crinoline. That way, it looked like I was deliberately making the dress puff out below the waist, instead of having it obvious that it was my own abdomen and butt puffing out, so to speak.

I bought high wasted tummy control spandex shorts. I have been going back and forth on weather or not I will be wearing them though just because of the going to the bathroom thing lol. I may just buy one of the ones that just go around the tummy area so I don't have to deal with undoing my dress just to pull some shorts down. Also I have thick thigh probs. and found this amazing stuff that works wonders and lasts all day. It's called body glide for her, I've seen it at Dick's sporting goods and Amazon.

Does the body glide keep your legs from dying from rubbing together? I HATE wearing dresses because of this.

YES!! It's specifically for chafing. It keeps them from rubbing together, the pain and redness and discomfort and its moisturizing.

I bought a bustier from Walmart.com, and I got a slip at David's bridal the day I got my dress.

I wore some work out shorts and a strapless bra corset. I ended up taking off the bra during the reception because it was annoying me...only to find out you couldn't tell the difference of it on or off. Try your dress with less on and see how it looks before buying all the things for underneath. I wish I had. I would have saved myself $80

My dress had everything built in, I wore the shorts -- but I didn't need it because it was an aline.

I used to wear it when I ran races and it works amazingly well. I plan to get some for the wedding as well because the spanx I have that cover my thighs will be near impossible to get off and on under my corseted dress. I have also seen what looks like garters but are much wider to help chafing but also look good. I doubt I'm going to care about looking sexy under all those layers though.
