Plastic Cups versus Glass Cups?

T., on February 22, 2013 at 1:44 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 34

Our rental company provides glassware that's around the same price as if we got disposable plastic glassware. Every where I read plastic is the better deal. But if we get plastic glassware it will be thrown away, so wouldn't that be money down the drain?

Does anyone prefer plastic over glass cups? Or vice versa?

I always thought plastic was extremely tacky at weddings, just my opinion.

Glass is much nicer if there's not much of a price diff. And it is a greener option. Smiley smile

I love glass, but that's just me. My mom will NOT drink wine out of plastic. She offered to pay for the glassware if we couldn't make it work in the budget. So, obviously, we found a way!

@ Joy P. yes, greener is better.

@Robin A. I wish someone would pay for our glassware, but alas, we must do that ourselves. lol.

Plastic cups, plates, and cutlery are extremely tacky for weddings.

Glass! Plastic is a huge, huge waste and has a terrible affect on the environment.

Guess my reception will be tacky since all we can afford is plastic.

If they're about the same price, then glassware is a no brainer.

I'm having a picnic sort of theme, but I still think plastic is a waste. I'm trying to figure out a way to do glassware/china. My parents might have to help pay, because it gets pretty expensive with the rental stuff.

I can't afford the real thing, so I'm buying the thick plastic stuff that looks real from Sam's Club. Plus, with all the kids coming, its best if its not breakable. I'm buying real wine glasses for the wedding party. They're not too hard to find at thrift stores.

It depends 100% on what type of wedding you are having and where its being held. For a formal indoor event - plastic is tacky. However for an outdoor or rustic event its perfectly acceptable! I'm doing all good quality plastic with one real wine glass per guest at walmart for 97cents a piece. I could have paid extra for real glass but for a barn wedding - plastic fit better.

I personally wouldn't care, but thats just me. Our wedding is outside on a concrete courtyard, so everyone agree's no glass! I can already see the mess it would possibly create if someone dropped a glass. Do whatever works for you. Smiley smile

I agree, all about the style and feel of your wedding. We're having a more laid back brunch reception and while there will be some glassware I will definitely have plastic on hand for the kiddos. My family is not particular either way as long as it's nicely done.

In your situation if it's the same price I'd go with the glass.

For me I really wanted glassware but until we found our caterer and they included all the dishes I was being talked into the plastic dishes that look like real china and glassware.

If it is the same price then most certainly go with glass. Much nicer and more environmentally friendly.

My wedding will apparently be making the tacky list as well. It's what we can afford, and more practical.
