Planning a wedding & applying for a K1 fianc? visa?

DreamComeTrue, on October 12, 2009 at 9:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 44

I?ve noticed that other brides are in international relationships. I was just curious to see how many of us are actually on here. Plus I thought it would be nice to link up because until you?ve tortured your self with the K1 fiance visa application you just can?t understand. Lol So if you?re a fellow international bride I?d love to hear from you! BTW my FH is in the UK and we plan to mail our visa app in by the end of the month at the latest!

Hi Dream I am currently towards the end of the K1 visa and I agree no one can understand the stress and hell of the visa lol. FH is in California and im Australian but currently living in Dubai. My interview is October 18th so less than one week to go and I am so ready for the paperwork to be over. So excited to see someone else on here who knows the hell of it all.

OMG I am soooo happy for you! You will be in my prayers on October 18th!!! Do you plan to leave immediately for the US or wait a little while? I see that you guys managed to pull off the wedding and the immigration...how the hell did you do it lol? The 3 months scared the heck out of me and I was so worried about how to get his family here with everything being depended on immigration, so actually decided to get legally married. We wont wear rings or anything and only our parents will know. We'll then have our wedding a year later in the DR.

In terms of the Visa I just finished and mailed it to him on Saturday! So, once he signs his document and double checks everything well be ready to mail it in....can't wait to be where you are!

I plan to fly out as soon as my visa is approved Ive been missing FH like crazy since I got back here (left the states on the 3rd) We are going to get legally married the second i get back but only our parents will know. Then we will have the big wedding in Feb. Its been so stressful and I am so scared about the interview that they will deny us or something. If they did I think we would just go and get married in Mexico or something and then apply for a marriage visa because we are determined to be together and hate being apart like this.

K1 visa bride here too. Smiley laugh

I remember assembling all the paper work was a hassle, but I mainly blame it on the two of us being hopelessly unorganized. Now I'm still waiting on my first packet.

I know that I would not have been able to put a wedding together in 90 days and I didn't want to elope and then have a reception later, so we are having legal ceremony and party all on the same day.

Aussie Bride I totally understand what your saying. We deff are so looking forward to being together...finally! You've visited the US while your Visa was being processed? How did that go? I've heard horror stories of how they don't wont to let you in the country because they are afraid you will try and stay. Did you have any issues? Have u been on any of the immigration sites? My fav is visajourney.com and from what I've heard the interview is straight forward as long as you know all his info and all the details add up. Your authentic so I doubt they'll trip you up!

I'm going the international route as well, except I'm leaving the states and heading to Darwin Australia. We're still waiting on visa info at the moment, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly with ours. Hey Dream, Aussie and Noel, happy to know I won't be alone.

Dream, we sent it out in late June, totally DIY. I just remember that I was on a visit to the States at that time and we were swimming in paper. Smiley smile

We received the first notice of action (NOA) and receipt about two weeks later and according to their website, processing time until NOA2 is 5 months. So I should be expecting it next month. After that is should go quickly if you have all the paper work together.

I have talked to a lot of other brides in our sitution and as long as you submit all the papers they request, the beneficiary doesn't have a criminal record, the petitioner can support the other financially and you can prove through pictures, emails, chats, etc that your relationship is legit, you shouldn't worry about anything.

Wow...thats quick! Time will fly...it will be here b4 you know it. Thankfully we have not of the issues you mentioned so it should be straight forward! What did you choose to send as proof of relay? How many artifacts? I have like 7-10 picts a few emails, a few cards , and then he's going to add the same.

Well hello to everyone lol. I love that so many other people are in the same boat I have felt so alone doing all this. We hired a lawyer to do ours since FH is in the military and was going home. Yes Dream I was in the states I actually visited twice while we have processed everything once was for 2 weeks while I met his family and saw some of the sites and the other time was for a month in San Diego while we set the apartment up so that things would be easier when I moved. Its a bit different being Australian because its part of the visa waiver program. When I got there each time they asked if I was coming to get married and I just answered honestly saying no the visa was still processing and everything went fine. I have got two folders of emails and letters to eachother hotel reciepts and things like that and all the official stuff. Then a full photo album and just had my medical two days ago which sucked lol. So im nearly at the end of the process and am so excited

Wow, so your apt is set up the way you want and everything...awesome! You are going to have a very nice transition. I know FH is military does have any deployments soon?

Yep I am 99% sure that UK is a visa waiver so he should have no issues. He can spend up to 90 days in the US without needing to get a visa he just does an online visa waiver application that takes about 5 minutes prints the approval out and he's done. We made sure that we booked a return trip before I left so that I could prove I would be there under 90 days. Yep apartment is all done and I even brought our dog over from Dubai on the second trip so he is there waiting for me to get back too. Unfortunately next year he'll be spending six months at sea but im hoping that if he goes to Aus ill go and visit him there and if he comes to Dubai he'll spend time with my parents which will be good since they get on so well.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the UK is in the visa waiver program. I also heard that visiting while visa is being processed is 'not recommended' but a lot of people are doing it. They usually just ask you what your purpose of your coming to the states is. As long as you don't lie to them they shouldn't harm you.

I am planning on visiting my fiance soon, just don't know how to do it timewise, because I don't want to have a letter from them sitting at home for 2 weeks and delaying the process that way. How did you do it Aussie?

As proof we sent in 5 pictures of us together dated and with location information, I think 3 chats, 2 emails that included wedding preparation, engagement ring receipt, air tickets, matching credit card receipts (someone told us we should give proof that we were at the same place at the same time, so we split a restaurant bill with both our credit cards), just whatever you can think of that proves your relationship, but don't overkill at the same time.

They will definitely request the police reports, Aussie. You need to submit one from every country you've lived in more that 12 months after your 16th birthday.

Actually I checked with the lawyer and she said you will probably get your letter about the interview end of October so I went over in August and literally the day I got there he got a letter saying it was approved by the US and that I would get a letter from the embassy for the interview soon. Then we got told the embassy can take a while sometime but we got the letter saying my interview would be the 18th of October so I rushed to get everything ready not realising that I needed copies of everything again and stupidly thinking they would pass on the package to the embassy. I had organised for my mail to be delivered to my mom so that she could tell me if anything came so as soon as it arrived I knew and changed my flight. I was meant to leave Nov 8th and ended up flying out Oct 3rd.
