Just handle it the way you would any other day.

You're an adult, you've been menstruating for years now. Just handle it like you normally do. You can't plan a wedding around it, because they are infamous for coming late when stressed. You'll be ok! Smiley smile

You could see your primary care provider or your OB/GYN to discuss other birth-control options to prevent you from menstruating on or around your wedding date.

It baffles me that some grown women still don't understand how to handle their period. If my period starts on my wedding. Oh well. I will be prepared like every other month since I was 13.

It baffles me that some grown women still don't understand that other grown women can have debilitating pain. PCOS, hormonal issues, and many other medical issues can lead to very painful symptoms. Birth control is not always a viable option for everybody.

ETA: Aside from pain...lets not all pretend like our wedding is just like every other day. We don't wear a white wedding gown everyday of the week. Pulling your pants down to change your tampon, easy peasy. Manipulating a ball gown or other difficult to handle dress, not so easy.

Nikki sometimes coping strategies include taking a sick day from work if it's a really bad day. Or sitting there shoveling naproxen and a heat pad on you and just trying to get through your damn work day at best. Consider yourself lucky you feel so great on day 1.

ETA: Side note I have a history of ovarian cysts which sometimes make my periods extremely painful on day 1. Sometimes they are fine, sometimes they are not. I have puked from the pain before.

I don't think most people can generally predict the exact date that far in advance. Don't worry about it yet.

Lots and lots of judgment in this thread. FYI, some women don't just have a simple period. Some have PMDD or PCOS or migraines and yes, some take a sick day on the first day of their period or during the PMS period every single month. So a poster is reaching out for advice on the off-chance there are some understanding souls who can relate. By all means, let's just call her stupid as we go on our merry little way to answer the umpteenth post about cash bars, pizza for dinner, and plus ones.

I agree... Lots of unnecessary responses by people who have nothing better to do than be rude to people on the internet.

I was hoping to plan around my period too bc I would rather not be bleeding on my wedding day.

I suggest a diva cup or instead cup. You can leave in up to 12 hours and I've never had a leak. It's better than tampons and pads imo Smiley smile

Why are people so rude? It would be absolutely horrible if I started my period on my wedding day. I don't want to just deal with it like an adult. I would be in the bathroom the whole time changing tampons and pads because my flow is so heavy the first couple days. The cramps are really bad and while I'm used to dealing with that, I certainly don't want to on my wedding day. I will be using birth control to make sure this doesn't happen.

Exactly @olivia. I know they're horrible, and some get them much worse than others. But the internet is not the place to ask. I would ask a doctor what you can do if you experience miserable periods. But like I said, you can't exactly plan around a period, so do your best to cope, op! Smiley smile

Nikki, it's not necessary to use the word when the sentiment comes across loud and clear in the post.

Olivia, I wasn't referring to you.

FutureMrsFox, you're right. The Internet is not where one should ask what others do when planning a wedding around their period. It is, however, a place to discuss friendship drama, custody disputes, family dysfunction, financial strategies, and all other threads we see on this very forum on a daily basis.

You're getting married on my birthday!!

There's nothing you can do about your cycle and PMS I used to plan any event around my period and it was a pain. I had endometriosis so its never the same every month. You can ask your gyn though what you can do about it.

@Og, I've always wanted to try the cups, I've just been nervous to for some reason. I think it would be perfect for me if mine came during my wedding. I can't imagine dealing with tampons during my wedding day!

I'm on the Nuva Ring & if I leave it in I can skip my period. I plan on doing that for my honeymoon.

I got my period 2 days before our wedding. It was a little inconvenient but not horrible but I don't have them like I used to when I was younger and in horrible pain due to cysts for the first couple days.

Some of us have health issues involving our reproductive systems that can be debilitatingly painful and life altering. Others like OP, have illnesses that can be affected, complicated or worsened by our periods. She came in here because she is concerned and has a valid health issue. Not everyone in this forum gets their period, and is able to insert a tampon and forget about it. I have endometriosis and had adenomyosis. I had to have a hysterectomy for the adenomyosis because the pain was so bad I was in the ER every month. No amount of talking to my doctor or medication would have saved me from that thing on my wedding day. There would be no wedding day. And I certainly wouldn't have gotten laid.
