Pizza and pasta?

What would you think about pizza at a wedding? I told FH I wanted to look at Italian restaurants for catering and do a salad and pasta buffet. He said if we do that he wants pizza too. My best friend said no way, this isn't a kids birthday party... which I kind of feel the same but it's his wedding...

I did find this cute sign to put at the table.

Mamma Mia! We are TOTALLY doing pizza for 100 people and it's going to be AMAAAZING! We put 'pizza party, drinks and dancing to follow' on the invites, and it's VERY us. (we are doing apps for cocktail hour, tons of desserts, salad, GF and Vegetarian options too) Our friends and family will have a blast, and we set expectations with the invite so it won't be a surprise. Seriously, if you're considering this, it's your wedding and I have been able to include more people we love because we aren't doing the chicken or fish stuff. Scandalizing my traditional aunties is just a bonus. haha

I love pizza. I could eat pizza 24/7. I am from Brooklyn, the pizza capital of the United States and I would still say no. Not because it's not for a wedding, or it's sloppy, or not formal. I say no because pizza cools in no time and nothing is worse than cold pizza with coagulated cheese sitting around, and everyone's hands all over it. If your wedding was at a venue that made the pizza and it was on the buffet hot and fresh, I would not mind that at all.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I would be THRILLED to see pasta and pizza at a wedding! Even if it's a pretty formal reception, if there are kids there you'll definitely be able to get away with it. If your FH wants pizza, get the guy some pizza! Plus, it's tons of carbs to soak up the booze.

So this was H's original plan...but like creative artisan stone fired pizza that they make on the spot. It would have included some nice salad selections (not basic house salads), and other apps. I was kinda on board with it.

Then we threw the idea around with some friends/family and most people were adamantly against it, even if it was "fancier" pizza. Lol. So we ended up going another route.

Late night snack or once I came across a vendor who did these adorable, gourmet mini pizzas as apps! no go on the dinner though

Even as I eat my lukewarm whole foods extra large pizza slice, I would say no. And if you are doing pasta bar, make sure there is a protein.

I like it for a late-night snack. But, if you're not going to do that, I'd think of at least having it in smaller portions - really small Sicilian squares or cut up so that I could have a small taste of pizza on the side from my regular food and not worry about it dripping all over my nice clothes (and that no one else has touched).

And I am someone who could eat pizza every day.

TLDR past comments but the venue we were originally looking at had pizza ovens and we were totally going to do late night pizza snack (was planning on surprising FH day of) changed venues and no longer had that option but you should do that!

I went to a wedding where the couple had some inside joke relate to pizza (don't ask, lol). Their reception was at a restaurant and they did different kinds of thin crust pizza as hor d'ouvres. And they were cut into small pieces so they weren't too messy. I thought that worked out well. Maybe that would be a good compromise?

@celia I don't see why my table can't look Pinterest worthy. If they just put out the pizza on trays I can buy the fancy stands for the table...

My DH said the same thing when I decided on Italian. We compromised with our caterer and did a variety of flatbreads cut into bite-sized pieces during cocktail hour. We surprised my DH by having hand-made chorizo as one of the toppings (he's from Argentina and chorizo is essentially a food group to him).

Otherwise I agree with PP and have it for a late night snack. Late night snacks were probably the best addition we had for our wedding. It was worth every penny and people talked about it for weeks afterwards.

I like the idea. I'd prefer it over banquet chicken any day.

That photo looks like every kids birthday party.

I love pizza, but not as a wedding meal. It's more of a snack.

We are doing Pizza as a late night snack as well. I would NOT do it for a main course. It does scream casual-informal- kids birthday party.

We used to get pizza parties in elementary school if our class was good. I love pizza, all the pizza, but definitely not for a wedding meal.

I disagree with pretty much everyone here. This is your day. You do want you want to do. Who cares if your family flips out? It's not their wedding. It's yours. Heck...I am serving brisket and BBQed chicken at my wedding...as well as pupusas (because my fiancé is from El Salvador). Yeah, it's as messy as it gets, but we also asked guests to dress colorful and casual. Because, who the heck wants to get dressed up on a Saturday? Not me. And, it's my wedding. If I wanted to have pizza and pasta, that is exactly what I would do. And, so should you.
