Our “plan” is no photographer

i feel like it’s the hugest waste of an incredibly large sum that I have ever heard of

I joined ww and there’s a lot of cant wait for pro bam and here’s my pro bam

Why do you think it’s necessary to have a photographer?

Yeah... I’m not even sure I want to add the cost of expenses Only for a college kid dying to start a portfolio

i do have time so my mind can still potentially change but here’s my line of thinking

i just don’t feel like it’s “necessary” because in my opinion it’s not rocket science to make sure everyone is looking and smiling before you snap the picture; and literally even most idiots could handle standing still while your family gets in and out of shots

maybe it takes common sense to know hey 1st dance: maybe I should take a picture?

I just feel like my family is highly intelligent and any one of them, or any friend, or the wedding party can handle snapping a shot for us

i am going to use tacboard.com

basically I believe as the “moments” happen plenty of people will photograph them and it’s hard for me to believe that there will be no good or perfect shots just because there wasn’t someone there making a boatload to watch a party

So much more goes into the ART of photography than “snapping a photo”. I hope you realize this; there’s no reason to bash Photographers just because you feel that you don’t need one at your wedding.

This is a smart idea for the thumb drive in a safe! We have a fireproof safe and we are lucky it's never been tested.

I also save high resolution images in the cloud, and post to FB so at least they are there too (not high resolution). I personally LOVE looking back at photos. There's one from my sisters wedding in 2013 where he and his brother who aren't twins look like twins and have on identical outfits. Funny little things like that make me smile.

Oh man this post took one hell of a turn 😬

Photography was the top priority on the list. I enjoy photography, have taken classes for it and know the basics. It is not an easy skill when editing, lighting, knowing which lenses to use, posing, etc is involved which is why Professionals/Freelancers charge what they do. It took me quite some time to find someone who had experience, technique and affordable pricing. There are photographers out there that are willing to work with your budget. There are even companies online where you can fill out forms to help you find someone within your budget. Have you looked into that?

Photos for me are important, I enjoy looking at them and I still look at our engagement photos. The first take of our engagement photo session was taken by a neighbors daughter who was just getting into photography (said neighbor made it sound like she knew a professional which is why we agreed and it was free). There was no editing, lighting was horrid, quality wasn’t great and I hated them truth be told. I had to edit them myself yet they still weren’t great. I booked a freelancer and cried after seeing her results, I loved how they turned out. Photographers are great at capturing emotion as well, sure any Joe can pick up a capture and snap a picture but photographers have a gifted eye. I feel like if a photographers work can make you cry, they’re damn good at what they do and I’d cherish those photos forever.

I plan on posting them on social media for the family and friends who didn’t get to go as my wedding is a destination. Also my family and I haven’t had a family photo since my brother and I were little kids, it would be nice to have one now that we’re grown. It’s also the first time my parents are meeting my husbands parents and family. I also plan to display the photos around the house and make a book of the engagement and wedding photos for a keepsake and no, it will not be “on the coffee table”.

I feel as though your attitude about photographers was negative from the start and only got worse once the replies were coming in. Photography is a profession like anything else, it’s the #1 seller for weddings so please don’t discredit or minimize their talent. I can understand not having enough to budget one in but at the same time respect their craft.

Personally I don’t trust friends and family photography skills with their phones and wouldn’t be surprised if they came out wonky or none of the important details were captured. Upon reading what your theme will be, I’d hope you had a photographer because it sounds like you’re putting a lot of effort into the details. And the same could be said about your details, why spend so much time when they’re just going to be thrown out and forgotten about? What are you going to do with all the 1000 piece decor items after? The money you spent on details could’ve went into a cheap photographer, you know?

You don’t have to break the bank to find a good professional photographer. but as other brides have stated, photographers are more than just snap the picture and go. It takes time, patience, angles, lighting and other edits/factors that a regular camera just can’t get. Plus a professional photographer takes away the stress of everyone else being responsible for taking photos

Me and my husband moved several hours away from all of our friends and family a few weeks before the weeding. Our pictures mean so much to me because it’s the only day that all of your friends and family are together. I love looking at the photos from our day, especially when I’m feeling down. We had all 8 of our grandparents at our wedding and it’s so special to have quality pictures with them.

    Girl.

My 2 children now and any future children I have will enjoy seeing photos of their parents and themselves. I will look at my “book” as much as I want.

If you can’t afford pictures then go without them. That’s the response it seems you wanted instead.

Exactly this. There’s no amount of money I wouldn’t pay for pictures of my parents wedding. They had a small courthouse wedding and there were no photos. They’ve been married 36 years and it makes me so sad not being able to see it.

Wedding photos are family heirlooms. I love seeing my grandmother’s wedding photos and she’s divorced. I never even met her husband 😂😭😩

I really so sorry to hear that your engagement session was so upsetting to you

to be honest this almost seals the deal that I don’t think it’s worth it to me because you can spend all that and cry

im sure I will have at least one good picture to reminisce if the mood should strike and to share but I have a different plan to guarantee at least one picture

i definitely would prefer guests didn’t take pictures because I think it’s incredible annoying but I understand my family rarely gets together and I don’t want to be prohibitive

the tacboard is mostly for them to share amongst one another

My photographer is also giving me digital copies I can upload to my cloud so if I ever experience an unfortunate event and lose all my pictures, they can be replaced.

    so there’s that.

    Here are three of my
uest shots vs. Pro shots. And then a few shots that my guests wouldn’t have been able to take cause our photographer came early and took them and posed us or caught things as they naturally happened (such as me twirling in the mirror after putting on my dress. none of my bridesmaids caught that moment lol).

What do do you do with your 5000 photos after the wedding? Well I’ve never heard of anyone getting 5000 back, but if you were just exaggerating, I got 500 back. I made a 70-page wedding album that comes in wednesday and I’m so excited!

My mom was similar to you and doesn’t have hardly any photos of yourself. I wish more than anything that I could thumb through one of her wedding albums. But she didn’t care about stuff like that. And maybe my daughters/granddaughters don’t care either, but at least they’ll have the chance.

Also, I’m a photojournalist, so both photos and documenting our lives in history is both super important to me, and others may not have the passion that I do.

Just remember, once the wedding is said and done with, you can’t go back and get those photos again. I spent $2600 on 7 hours for my photographer and I wouldn’t have done it any other way.

One more note: even just taking family photos isn’t as easy as it seems. No one wants to stand still enough for everyone to get together. Photographers have to have balls and tell people what to do!

Now THIS is an interesting post

its hard to believe that both albums have survived life happening around them lol!!

I’m glad you shared this with me because there is probably nothing I wouldn’t do to please our daughter...

now i I feel like I definitely don’t think I’m going to get a decent deal, I’ll probably end up with someone with a great portfolio who does crap work on mine but it is what it is

at least I don’t have to ever look at them or think about it again once we receive and store them
