Photographers late & still no photos...

Chelsea , on October 3, 2019 at 10:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Our big day was July 5. Other than our photographers, it was great. We hired a professional company (referral from an acquaintance). They also did our engagement photos, which were stunning. Communication was great until our last payment. For example, we had to reschedule our planning session (where we finalize location, photo time line and must have photos) b/c the owner 'forgot'. Then, day of wedding the main photographer showed up 45 min late. The second photographer was over an hour late (apparently, the owner only scheduled her for 6 hours even through we paid for 8 hours for each photographer). After recreating some "getting ready moments" for her to photograph, the main photographer then followed my sister (MOH) to the first look location and somehow got lost for another hour pulling into the parking lot. She did not answer our calls for over 45 minutes... Long story short, we started our photos nearly 2 hours late. My sweet husband literally stood outside for 1.5 hours, in the sun, in a wool suit waiting for her so we could do our first look. We were both so upset and overheated by the time they finally happened that it took all the joy out of the moment (we're both cry-ers and there was zero emotion).

Our contract says 8-12 weeks to receive our photos. We are now 13.5 weeks out and nothing. I have reached out and will get minor responses, ie. "we're very much still in your time frame" "they'll be ready soon", etc. We were literally married over 3 months ago and still do not have photos. We had an unplugged wedding and reception so I do not have a single photo from the day, which breaks my heart.

What should we do? We are considering getting an attorney for breach of contract; could we also request a refund for the time that the photographers were not present (either running late, leaving early or 'lost')? I have not expressed the depth of my frustration to the owner as I worry about retaliation & just desperately want our photos. Any advice is welcome.

I would definitely get an attorney and pursue legal action to ensure they actually get them to you and also, so you get your money back. That's ridiculous, sorry you're going through that!

Maybe call the owner and calmly explain to him what happened with them the day of and he may give you a partial refund maybe. And tell them that if you don't get the photos by a certain day that you will bring them to court.

I would get an attorney for breach of contract about the timeline to get the photos as well as the fact that you paid for 8 hours and got a spotty 6. You should be able to get some money back for sure. So sorry you are dealing with this!

Unfortunately, I think you'll have to pursue legal action. This is such an awful situation to be in, and I wish you nothing but the best!
