Photographer hours, how many?

Ti'Anna, on August 16, 2019 at 1:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hey all, we are currently shopping for a photographer and of course the most important deciding aspect next to Price and how well their work is, is how many hours we would need them for the day. How many hours did you guys plan or are planning for your photographer? I most definitely want them for the getting ready pictures. I'm planning for a 4 oclock ceremony, with a cocktail hour for at most an hour for photos with family. I don't feel like the photographer will need to be there the whole night because I haven't really decided on if we will be having a major exit. Just looking for some insight from other fellow brides. TIA

Our photographer was there for 5 hours. She came 30 mins before the ceremony (no first look) and left 30 mins before the reception ended. It was plenty of time!

Okay that sounds good, we are also planning for no first look as well. Thank you!

Our package covered two photographer for the full day, and we're going to take advantage of that. I plan to have getting ready pictures with the girls, we'll be doing a first look and all the wedding party/family photos before the ceremony, and some kind of an exit. When I roughed out our timeline, I had hair and makeup starting between 9 and 10am, the ceremony at 5:30, dinner at 6:30, and leaving at 11. So even if we didn't need a photographer for the second half of the reception, we were already looking at 10 or more hours of coverage, so getting full day support seemed like a good idea

I had mine for purty much 8-9 hours but we took photos hours before the ceremony started. If you don't plan to do that, it's ok to cut it down to start a bit before ceremony.

I booked mine for 7 hours. Getting ready and wedding party shots pre ceremony, no first look, cocktail hour, and then til the end of the reception for our sparkler exit

Yeah, I did start thinking the more hours the better just to make sure we had for sure coverage for things.

We booked our photographer (single shooter) for 8 hours. He arrived at 1PM for getting ready, first look, wedding party, and family photos before our 4PM ceremony. By 9PM, we had completed all our planned items (e.g. cake cutting, sunset photos) and it was open dancing. We only needed so many drunken dancing photos, so the timing of his departure was perfect.

We have two photographers for 5 hours (getting ready, ceremony, formals), and then just one for an addition 2 hours fo the reception, just long enough to cover toasts, the dances, and some of the party!

We're having two photographers for 8 hours. We can pay for overtime, but I doubt we'll want it since we aren't having a grand exit and there's only so many photos of guests dancing you can take.

Our photographer is booked for 4 hours. I'm not really interested in getting getting ready photos and we're not doing first looks. Our main focus is getting ceremony pics and photos with our families afterwards. We're having a small wedding so for us it didn't make sense to hire someone for all day

Okay understandable, My fiance and I aren't planning for a first look but I'm sure the photographer can knock out some wedding party pictures before the ceremony.

Yeah, I figured if maybe I did need extra hours I could just pay for them and I don't want too many pictures of guest dancing.

Check your contract to see how much it'll be. Some photographers charge outrageous prices for overtime, ours is $125 an hour. In our area it seems to be on the low side, but it's nice to have that option.

We do for 8 hours. Starts at noon, she wanted us done with hair and makeup by 130 so she can take pics of getting ready and dressed and then she ends at cake cutting!

Yeah I'm doing price comparisons with all that were suggested to me by my wedding planner. So far where we reside prices vary and there are some that are very reasonable, THANK GOD!

We’re going to have 4 hours. Family/wedding party pics at 2, ceremony at 3, then right into reception. She’ll get there at 2, and I believe it’ll be plenty of time.
