Photo booth Rental advice

Maltese, on June 20, 2014 at 11:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

FH and I agreed that we HAVE to have one, and I'm looking into pricing right now for a photo booth and am looking for advice from ladies who have used them or are using them...

How many rental hours did you have on your booth? Right now we have a cocktail hour starting at 5pm, with the reception for 220 people ending at 11pm (extra hours available for purchase up until the very end). Suggestions are appreciated!

We are using http://www.fairytaleproductions.net/ for our photobooth. The guy I have been dealing with has been amazing. We have a 5hr rental for $700 I think. That includes mileage for them to come out because I am a little out in the country. You get free props, free guestbook with photo strip for each guest in the pic and one in the photo book.

Definitely negotiate pricing. Get estimates from all over and then choose the company you trust the most and ask to match the lowest price. We were signing our contract with our DJ when he asked if we wanted a photobooth. I said no because we could get one for Shutterbooth for cheaper. He said he would match the price, which was about $3-400 under his price! So we ended up going with him because then it's less companies in the chaos and they will communciate by text to push the photobooth if it's empty. I didn't even think to ask because it was such a huge difference. So just ask!

We have our photo booth for the entire evening (6+ hours), and is an add-on to our photography package. It is $299 as an add-on, $599 as a standalone rental.

Although I have no advice about pricing since I haven't looked into one yet, I can give you some insight as a guest from the wedding we were just at that had one and what didn't work quite right...

    1) It opened after about an hour into reception (Bride and Groom were already introduced) and dinner wasn't served right away so people were bored and wished it was open already.

    2) When it did finally open EVERYONE was there and they were blocking the entrance/exit to outside as well as the bathrooms, so annoying and dangerous as well.

    3) It closed about an hour and a half before the reception ended. Not everyone got a chance to go in (because of lines, stopping for dinner, waiting at a small line at the bar, etc) that wanted to and it felt like kind of a bummer.

Sorry its not about pricing, but since were on the topic thought you may want to know lol Smiley smile

Ours offered "idle time" discount because we wanted it open for the cocktail hour but then shut down for the beginning of dinner, entrances, etc., so that saved us a little $. And we are ending it an hour before the end of the reception...figured by then it was probably either not going to be being used...or being used inappropriately, ha!

Reception was 5:30-10pm - the total cost with props and set up/break down was $675. Unfortunately, it never worked though, and they sent us a full refund. Be sure they have something like that in their contract, or ask them about it beforehand in writing. Sometimes things just happen and electronics tend to have a mind of their own.

Ours wasn't for a set amount of time, which was nice because we opted the week of the wedding to extend the reception for an hour. It was an add on to our photography package for $1000. They opened it after dinner and stayed through the end of the night, so 7-11ish. They provided a box of props, unlimited visits, a photobook that they put a copy of each print into for us, and an attendant to ensure it ran smoothly. It was close to the dance floor, so there was never a line. People would just stop over, take their picture, and get back to dancing.

I don't know if your cocktail hour and reception are in different locations, but I would recommend having it in the reception room. Therefore, it worked great that it didn't open until after dinner.

We have the cocktail hour/reception in the same room but i definitely want it open during the cocktail hour AND late into the night for the fun photos, maybe if we close for an idle hour during dinner and the entrances it may work.
