Photo Booth or Polaroid Guest Book

Danielle, on April 3, 2019 at 10:38 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

I really love the idea of having a photo booth at our wedding. But dang, they are so expensive! Not sure if I can justify spending $250 per hour for a photo booth. So, I was considering having a Polaroid guest book instead. But to be honest, the film etc. for that can be pretty pricey as well. I just can't decide!! Any thoughts? Why did you pick a photo booth or Polaroid guest book? With ball park price comparing, I'm looking at around $250 for Polaroid guest book & film versus $500 for 2 hours of a photo booth (figured 2 hours is a good time frame to have one). I like both, but can definitely only choose one.

I would go with the photo booth! I know both are interactive, but I personally want a non-traditional "guestbook" that I can display in our house (FH's aunt is making us a wooden letter H to hang on our wall). Whether or not you want a guest book that you can display or look back on simply for the memories is entirely up to you though!

I agree! I'd go photobooth too. Then your guests can take their pics home, and you won't have to worry about them wasting the film you bought for your guest book on pics they are bringing home (I've seen this happen at another wedding with a Polaroid guest book - guests used them to take personal photos to bring home with them!)

I would probably go with the photo booth because I looked into the Polaroid cameras and they were pretty expensive. Plus everyone suggested having more than one camera.

We are lucky that our DJ package included the photo booth, so it's not costing anything extra. But if I had to choose between your two options, I'd go with the photo booth. It's another source of entertainment for your guests, usually the guests can take the photo strips home as a souvenir, and you'll get a bunch of those memories to keep for yourselves.

What do you think about making DIY photobooth? You can make your own fun backdrop with some draped fabric you can get for cheap on Amazon & have an iPad on a tripod with a photobooth app that takes timed photos & emails / texts photos directly to the guests. The photo quality is not as high as with photobooth with a pro camera, of course, but it will be better than Polaroid & less pricey. If light ring is in the budget, that would be even better for photo quality.

We're going a Polaroid camera section as the "photobooth" with a diy background. I just like the vintage idea and my grandmother ALWAYS carried her Polaroid at family functions so it's also a tribute to her. Only thing is we already have one and we just have to buy the film. actually buying one just for the wedding would be a lot but it depends on how creative you wanna be. I think photobooth is a bit boring but that is my opinion only!

I'd do the photobooth. With the Polaroid you'd have to either designate someone to take the pictures or the guests may skip that part. If my FH and I showed up and no one was there to take our picture, we probably wouldn't take one. It'd be a super awkward selfie if anything.

Our DJ offered a photo booth so we included that in our package. We figured why not...let’s go big. Lol

I’d do photoboth. Have you looked around your area? I am going with someone really cheap, just $125 an hour. I saw his stuff at a bridal exhibit. It’s a little slow but it’s an area I wanted to save money on. We are doing a photographer and a videographer, plus we have tomahawk throwing and archery during cocktail hour and then a fire pit and corn holes, washers, and giant jinga. Plus the costumerary DJ so if the photobooth is a little cheaper and takes a little more time I’m okay with that. They will live lol

That sounds like a neat idea, but I don't have an iPad and I am not that tech savvy, lol.

There are a TON of photobooth companies on Groupon in my area. Check it out. You'll save a lot.

We are going this way or just having a selfie station during the cocktail hour at my daughter's wedding.

If you are doing any DIY, you could make your own photo booth. I just finished the frame for ours and it cost less than $15 and took literally 7 minutes to put together-super easy! I am going to buy some cute (wedding color) curtains to hang on it, add some flowers and done!

Here is the link to the frame: https://www.downhomeinspiration.com/10-10-minutes-diy-photo-backdrop/

Here is a link to some printable props: https://www.shutterfly.com/ideas/wedding-photo-booth-props/

Also, Party City has props as well that are super cute. You could easily have everything you need for around $50! Granted, you will need your own camera/tablet and tripod or just let everyone do selfies.

Look into Wedit! They let you rent 5 iTouches with HD quality cameras for your wedding. You can get a selfie stick tripod and use that for a DIY photo booth

We are doing both, but if you have to pick one I’d go with a photobooth company because most of them include or have the option for a guestbook to be made! We aren’t doing one from ourse because we opted for a custom backdrop instead

Hmmm my friend had the Polaroid camera and at no point did I think I should take two photos for one to take home... Idk if other guests did, but she made it worded on the sign that it was for the guestbook. It's still good to have more than enough film! Honestly I myself wouldn't spend $500 on photobooth knowing the affordable option. I am spending $325 for 2 hrs of photobooth. I am getting my own guestbook (they're are too pricey from the vendor). I would look into cheaper photobooths if you want to go the route of letting guests take photos home too.
