I'm starting to make my wedding day schedule and did a Google search for what exactly are the duties of my personal attendants (I have two) vs the duties of my bridesmaids. I was really surprised when I clicked on some links to the Knot forums where girls were losing it that someone is even having a personal attendant. Like it's offensive to ask someone to be a PA rather than bridesmaid because in their eyes it's like asking someone to be their slave. A little dramatic I think...

Is is that bad? I wasn't in my PAs weddings, but we're close. The one is SUPER organized and has a great eye for design and the other is one of my closest religious friends (she had two PAs at her wedding too). They are two people I want to have help keep me on track.

So this is a three part question-

1) Is asking someone to be a PA offensive?

2) Do you have one?

3) What are they doing vs what your bridesmaids are doing?

I live in WI/MN and I have heard of personal attendants and I will NOT be asking anyone to fill that role. I feel like it's reserved for people who aren't good enough to be bridesmaids. That's just my opinion, though. But if someone wants to be a personal attendant, then I guess that's a different story.

Is asking someone to be a PA offensive?

In my opinion, no. However, the gods over at the knot have spoken so I guess we're wrong

    Do you have one?

I actually have three. One is my go-between for the DOC. She's a wedding planner herself and will be able to answer any question she has. The other one will assist my BP and our mothers. The third one will be there with me as I'm getting ready. My attendants are also involved in the wedding planning process. I have 7 month old twins, work full time and marrying my oldest child (LOL) I couldn't possibly plan a wedding without their help. I don't overburden them, but after the whole invitation situation, I do go to them first.

I really dont think I would be offended if someone asked. I'd be so happy to help (no matter what my title or responsibilities were). BUT i could see how someone wouldn't respond well to such a request.

I asked a friend to help me out on the day. She and her husband had just moved to Scotland from Australia (I got married in northern England) and they were flat broke so I offered to cover their accommodation at our wedding venue. I got to have my friends at my wedding and they didn't feel they were being offered charity. She was a point of contact for vendors - in briefing notes to them I referred to her as 'bride's representative'.

I only had a MOH, no bridesmaids, so it was brilliant to have someone I trusted implicitly helping out where needed.

I had some cash payments to make to vendors on the day that she took care of (I gave her the money obviously) and she supervised the set up of the ceremony and reception rooms and the arrival of the cake and flowers while I was getting ready. After that there wasn't much - my MUA helped with my dress and train and whatnot, so my friend was already seated for the ceremony. After that, she helped me put some pins back in my hair - but that's not something we discussed, that's just something one friend would do for another. And that was about it for the day.

Now Virginia, but I grew up in Illinois, but all of our family and now my sisters are up there so I spend a lot of time up there! My sisters went to The U and now live in Minneapolis, and I actually have an Aunt and Uncle in Eagan Smiley smile
