It is common actually, I have a few cousin that are less than respectable and who knows what kind of plus ones people may bring. A small wedding cures that problem most of the time thought. You would like to think people wouldn't do that but who knows. I'm getting a beautiful glass engraved card box that you can find online (google search) and it locks! Also you can use it as a shadow box for your bouquet and such later for your home (:

We have 4 ushers in our wedding, all of which are being given the task of guarding our gift table...Because well, people suck. And it's not our guests we're worried about, it's that one shady person working the venue that no one is paying attention to. Smiley tongue

We're also going to have our massive bridal party keeping an eye out, and the gifts and cards will be removed from the reception and taken to our bridal suite before dancing begins; because the easiest time to steal anything is while everyone is up, moving around, dancing, drinking, etc.! Smiley winking

Thats what I am thinking is having someone take it out of the room. Maybe have them put it in our room is that safe?

I've had multiple guests that have (and are telling me they are going to) just send the gifts to our home, due to how common it is for people to steal cards, gifts, even decor.

My coworker told me that she gave her niece a check for her wedding and it didn't get cashed for a while, so she called her Niece and asked her if she misplaced it or such, and she couldn't recall ever getting a card from her. Her niece then contacted some family members and found out many checks, and cash she never received was because someone took them out of her card box.

I guess I am just shocked that anyone would be nasty enough to do that. Like you know that person they invited you to theory wedding and you decide fuck it ill steal from them for some fun!

I like that glass box I found a photo one as well with a little lock on it

Our venue provides a card box for us to use -- it's actually attached to the table and locked. They will open it for us at the end of the night.

My mom was all "Let's just get a basket!" but I had read horror stories of people stealing cards/money from receptions and I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

    lol

I've never heard of this, honestly. But with 300 guests, there are going to be people who don't really know you and...well...don't really care.

    I find it bizarre, honestly.

I've heard of it- never witnessed it, but I've heard it's common.

I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do.

I had fh hollow out a log and cut the bottom off of it. It's heavier than he'll, and it locks on the bottom. Our hall also had us name one person who will handle it. That will be fh's job

My venue actually takes away the gifts/cards and locks them away for the night.

My first wedding was 8 years ago and we had put gifts in the trunk of our car and overnight they were stolen from the hotel parking lot. We are guessing it was done by hotel employees or other people who saw us walking in our wedding attire from the car in to the hotel.

It can happen! I never even had a second thought on people I know stealing until we recently started having theft problems at work (these are people I have known for a long time and trust them with my life...so when someone started stealing it was like a stab in the back). The guy in charge of our venue is also the bartender and he says there's a safe behind the bar and he'd be willing to hold onto them. So...that's going to happen.

I heard of a story where the woman was a plus 1 of an RSVP guest. She was caught coming out of the restroom. One of the other guest went in behind her & realized there were pieces of cards that hadn't flushed. The police was called & she was arrested w/over $800 worth of gift cards stuffed in her bra & over $1000 worth of cash. Even though she was caught it still messed up the rest of the evening for the couple.

I have already put FSIL in charge of taking the gift box up to our suite before the reception party gets fully underway
