Park pavailion tacky?

Courtney, on March 14, 2011 at 8:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Hey ladies!!! so my FH n I were planning to have our reception in out backyard, but walked down to the park down the road from us and were thinking that perhaps we could have it there, we are on a very limited budget and if we had it there it would save money on renting a tent and portapoties and it has way more parking but Im not too sure I love the park it's very pretty and in the country so pretty open and by a river but I'm just wondering if it would be odd?

I don't think it is tacky at all, in fact it sounds absolutely beautiful. If you don't feel it though, then you shouldn't do it.

I think a park is a great idea! Great scenery, lots of space, built in decor... there are a lot of positives in your idea. Just be aware there may be more involved - most places you just can't park a tent and party it up. You may need a permit for the tent, park fees, a permit if you are serving alcohol etc etc... Plus tent rentals and all that go with it can get pricey as well. It's definitely not an odd idea, just do your research before you book that tent or buy those cases of champagne!

Are you thinking of having a ceremony and reception at the park?

A park pavilion is a great idea. We have had a few brides here have their wedding at one. They have had some great decorations and the pictures turned out amazing! I think that if you really want to do it, look into it! You can do it and make it look beautiful even on a limited budget.

I think it would be nice depending on what it looks like. My cousin had hers at a park pavilion and I personally think it was a disaster! it was entirely too small for our big family! the pavilion she chose was more for graduation parties.

I also think it sounds perfect. You can make it as elegant or laid back as you want. Nature provides the decor. However, the downside of having a wedding at a park is the amount of work involved. While initially you may say it doesn't matter, trust me, we thought the same about our DW in Vermont in a biker's residence. We need to rent a U Haul to take up the decore, etc. Smiley smile

Our reception will be inside an enclosed theatre pavilion, a little used architectural gem in our home town The open pavillions in the same park just don't provide enough shelter for inclement weather which is almost a certainty in September in central NY. Shoud the weather cooperate we will have the ceremony on the lawn outside the paviliion overlooking a lake.

I've been considering similar - I think it depends on the park / pavilion. Not that any would be tacky, but more whether that particular park would be best equipped to handle your needs. Someone recommended to me a few weeks ago to consider: If you want a pavilion with electricity that can power your whole event, make sure you research that. If you want a ton of decor, think of who can help you in a DIY set-up and take down if not a wedding coordinator. How would the food get there and stay cold or warm?

I found out that some parks in my area have a rule against any alcohol, others are more "anything goes" policy, others have a make-shift kitchen available, etc. Hope that helps!

My ceremony is going to be at a campground near the Ohio River. We decided to decorate the altar like this.

My cousin did her's at park on the Hudson River in our home town - big covered pavilion and she did some little decorations and table covers. It looked fantastic. And you get the park surroundings as the real "decoration"

I love the idea..It would be outside and beautiful. My only concern would be with uninvited guest wondering around.I would make sure to have a spot where it wont be as close to anyone else.Or have poeple you don't know in the back ground. At least to the ones I have been to those were the issues.

My sister is having her wedding reception at a park pavillion. It is RIGHT by the church she is getting married at and it was $25 to rent for the day. The money we saved is more than enough for whatever decorations and linnens the venue will need.

My FH and I were going to do our ceremony at a park under a pavillion. The only reason we changed parks is that all the ones around us wanted to charge outrageous fees to rent it. Then it was double because we were not residents of those cities. We did end up finding a park that has an ampitheater type area that has flowers planted all around and beautiful trees that is only going to cost us $20 an hour. A park can be a beautiful place.
