Parents and siblings boycott

My parents and both of my brothers are saying that they're going to boycott the wedding if my brothers are not in the wedding what should I do? My parents and both of my brothers are saying that they're going to boycott the wedding if my brothers are not in the wedding what should I do? My fiancé and I were planning on choosing our own wedding parties; I was going to choose all of my girls and he was to choose all of his boys so this kind of throws a wrench in the mix. Also if i add my brothers that means I have to add 2 more bridesmaids.. So 7 total plus a flower girl. Then my dad sticks his nose in and says that the two girls I have to add are already married so they are not valid choices. He also says that I'm not allowed for anybody in my bridal party to have a plus one WTF. As far as I know they're not helping with the wedding I have not asked him for any money to help pitch in and assumed we are going to be paying for everything ourselves. The frosting on the cake? My bridal party isnt allowed to bring a plus one, yea ok dad.. He literally fought with me all morning and made me cry.

Short and sweet - with no explanation.

"I'm sorry you feel that way."

Its their choice - let them make their choices.

I am sorry you have to go through this - my parents are helping and aside from a few small things - are having no say in anything about the wedding - and they haven't tried either. So, not all parents need to be in super control of your wedding. Wish you the best.

Idk if they are paying or not, i am not expecting them to nor have i asked. My fiancé and I naturally presumed we would pay for it. If they want to help out great but it is not expected and i honestly don't think they could afford to. I had no intention of asking either.

I do want an even bridal party.

I spoke with my fiancé about my brothers and he is fine with it but feels his sister will feel excluded now since we decided early on* his sister would not be a BM.

One of my favorite sayings: you don't pay, you don't get a say! Carry on, girl! Have the wedding you envision!

BOOM - Centerpiece for the win. I hope you write them an email worded exactly as she has written it.

I also wouldn't accept a penny from your parents. If they are pulling this kind of BS right now without paying for anything, you can expect a nightmare if they do pay. Don't do it their way and they will pull it and boycott.

    Don't accept a penny!

If they offer you money, don't take it. Then they will have leverage. This is emotionally abusive. Stand up for yourself and refuse to be treated this way. Or it will continue forever. People treat you how you let them treat you. Pay for your own stuff, make your own decisions, and if they show up great. If they don't, they are the assholes. And don't cover for them

Miss2mrs, you don't have to have an equal bridal party on each side. I know some people like it to be even--hey, that's fine!--but in reality you should choose the people that mean the most to you and an uneven number is just fine.

What is your dad talking about that the bridesmaids have to be unmarried? He used the word 'valid'? That's the silliest thing I've heard! Th BP can be married or unmarried, etiquette does not dictate that. Traditionally only the matron of honor has been married, but that's just an insignificant title and isn't 'valid' anymore. My MOH is divorced and I call her my maid of honor. ( actually she prefers maid of dishonor cause she appreciates irony).

If your dad isn't paying for your wedding ignore what he's saying and do what you want. These fact that they'd boycott your wedding and manipulate you is just awful!

Even if they were paying, there's no amount of money parents can throw at you that dictates who your bridal party is or IF THEY BRING A DATE. Jesus.

This is your day and you can have it your way. If you like add your brothers as ushers and keep it pushing. You are not their puppet, hell yeah your BM can bring a plus one.

Sometimes you have move forward with some people, your FH and you are building your new lives and it may not include people that are trying to control you. Pray on it and move forward with your dream wedding.

If you added your brothers, you wouldn't have to have two more bridesmaids. You could make them bridesmen, which makes more sense anyway since they are closer to you than to him. And sides don't have to be even.

That being said, you should have them only if you want to. Centerpiece has the right idea about the response to your parents.

Your family is nuts. Ignore everything they say and let them boycott.

Also, you know that uneven bridal parties are NOT a big deal right? They are super common. It doesn't matter and no one cares.

What in the world? Where did he even get that from? It's your wedding, you get to choose your BP. If they want to boycott, let them.

Don't give into them. If you give into this, what will they demand next? You've already decided bridal parties. You can offer your brothers usher roles (you don't have to get anyone's approval but theirs) and they can take it or leave it. I would avoid discussing wedding stuff with them S much as possible, if I were you.

Can you give them the role of usher? Then they are still apart of the wedding party and have a role and you done have to add two more maids.

Either way if you decide to include them or not, you should still have the conversation with your parents, other wise this will continue to come up thought the wedding planning process.
