Pale-skin Brides Unite!

KristnH, on April 4, 2013 at 11:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39

I am significantly more pale than FH, as is evidenced by my photo. His pale parts are my tan parts, if I'm lucky.

My question is: have any of you ever had a spray tan, or are any of you planning one for your wedding festivities? I don't want one for the wedding, I like my pale skin/dark hair/red lips combo with the dress, but we aren't leaving for the HM (Hawaii) until a couple days later, so I'm debating about purchasing some color so that I don't blind the other people on the beach...

Hahah blind people! I know how you feel. I'm giving tanning a whirl. I know that people are against it but I'm doing it anyway!

Jergens self tanner works well without turning you some fake orange color.

I'm definitely spray tanning before the wedding but I will be testing the place first!

I'm pale! I can lay out for HOURS and all that happens is my freckles make an appearance. I considered getting a spray tan for the wedding, but FH practically begged me not to. He likes my paleness. It's growing on me, too, and I don't want to look unnatural in our photos.

The thing I'm more concerned with is burning on our HM to Mexico. So I'll be laying out plenty before the wedding and slathering on sunscreen once we get there.

I'm super pale, too. I bought some at home tanning cream to try and darken my legs a bit. I haven't spray tanned in years. I didn't like the way it smelled.

I embraced my pale on my wedding day. I am never tan. Even in the summer, if I get any color at all, I burn, I peel, and then I go back to being white. A spray tan would have been totally awkward for me and I probably wouldn't have felt like myself.

I use Loreals self tanning lotion. I absolutely love it! I think I may do airbrush or spray tan for the honeymoon though. I am going to play around with it ahead of time and see what last sand what looks the best.

I'm part of the red hair/fair skin group! I've done a couple tanning sessions before travelling somewhere super sunny- it helps me not burn to a crisp as soon as I step off the plane. I'd maybe go once the day after the wedding, I'd hate for you to spend the HM uncomfortable with a burn!

I am super pale compared to my FH as well. I am doing the dark hair/pale skin/red lips thing combo with my dress as well. I am wary about doing the fake tan thing just because I know it won't look natural on me in pictures. I might try the Jergens self tanning lotion that MJ suggested.

    @MrsO- Beautiful!

I too burn when in the sun for any length of time. All self tanners I have tried turn me orange in at least one spot if not all over.

If you go with the spray tan, make sure the person is a professional and knows how to work with very light, white skin. My FSIL tried it once, she's very light, and the lady didn't know what she was doing. FSIL was orange from head to toe.

I am like a vampire, much like the "irish girl tanning" photo above and I get mystic tans ALL the time. I have one in my profile pic. I highly recommend it!

    RayRay is an expert!!

I tried my first airbrush spray tan, applied by a person not a machine, a couple months ago. It turned out great! The light to medium color was the perfect color for me. I tried the medium spray tan a few weeks ago and it was way too dark.

Most people say the airbrush tan looks best on the second or third day. Mine was definitely the second day. You have to wear it for 24 hours before you can shower it off. Take cold showers, moisturize like crazy, and exfoliate/shave really well the night before. Make sure there are no products or sweat on your skin before the airbrush (shower right before with just water and a mild soap if needed).

I also bought Jergens Natural Glow, so I might try using that to extend my tan.

I wouldn't recommend using any self tanning lotions/gels that have bronzers in them. In my opinion they often look unnatural and orange.

I also checked this link out:

Pale girls unite! I am embracing my pale for the wedding, especially since my wedding is in January in PA and a tan would stick out like a sore thumb!

Both of us are super pale too. I haven't tried a spray on, but any self tanners I've gotten have been splotchy looking. I am thinking about a tanning bed just for this occasion. I know its bad, but I'm so pale I'm practically purple.

I'm also super-pale and embracing it for the wedding....and for all other occasions as well!!! Skin cancer is rampant in my family so tanning is out of the question for me. I honestly no longer care how pale I am. However, I can attest to the wonder of Jergens self-tanner. It is available for different skin tones so you'll likely want to go with the palest they offer. You use it as a lotion for several days to build color. The nice thing is that it doesn't sweat off or stain clothes like a spray tan or other self-tanners do. I highly recommend it for a natural glow!

Haha @J&B, I love the picture!

@MrsO I totally agree that for my wedding photos it wouldn't be "me" if I were anything but the pale girl I normally am. Your pictures are beautiful!

I am definitely planning to embrace the pale for my wedding day. I've actually come to like how my skin looks.

It's the honeymoon I'd like some color for. I do own some of the Jergens tanning lotion, but it's difficult to get onto my back, and I'm too lazy to try and apply it every day.

I think I'd like to test a spray tan place or two (no tanning beds) over the summer, and then get a little color after wedding/before honeymoon. And don't worry, my sunscreen and I are BFFs Smiley smile

I am still debating what I want to do: be pale, tan, or do a spray tan. I really like how I look at the end of summer. I keep procrastinating at making a decision, so I might be pale due to simple laziness.

Me too! I am so pale and my FH is italian so he's always tan, even in the middle of winter. Its annoying, actually. Smiley smile

I have spray tanned before. I have always done the machine ones, not by an actual person. I have had good luck with it. BUT, definately do a test run or two, to figure out the color you want. And be honest with the people at the salon, if you don't understand the process or think the color they recommend will be too dark, tell them!

I am always spotty the day of and a few hours into the next day, which is normal, so don't freak out about that and wear clothes that you don't care about, as it could stain.

Its one of those things, the more you pay, the better the results. There are certain things I would skimp on, a cheaper spray tan, not one of them.

    Good luck!
