Overplayed First Dance songs - What songs are you sick of hearing?

NenaBear, on April 15, 2016 at 5:08 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 61

So, this fun article popped up in my newsfeed and got me thinking the opposite direction. What songs are you sick of hearing at weddings?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/first-dance-songs-that-havent-been-played-to-death_us_570d7ecde4b08a2d32b84b23?

One that stands out to me is " A Thousand Years". It's beautiful, but enough already!

Edit: Spelling is hard..

Thinking Out Loud. I'm going to get crucified for that because everyone and their brother is using that as their first dance. It feels so bandwagony to me. Ed has so many awesome songs that people have never even heard and won't because all they care about is TOL.

Aw shit, that's mine and FH first dance song. Is it really that overused at weddings?

Then by Brad Paisley. I think it's some cruel tradition where I'm from that you have to dance to that song, it's literally been the first dance song at the last 7 weddings I have attended!

    @Kristy it's fine. It's ridiculously overplayed.

I'm right there with you Kristy. Never heard of it, but I don't listen to much popular music. I'm sure among country fans "I Don't Dance" is overused. Don't care, the lyrics describe us perfectly - and I don't think most of our guests listen to country anyway.

TOL was almost our first dance song until I saw a post on here and at least 30 other couples were using it. It's a great song, but at this point is is overplayed and soooo unoriginal.

And I think Like I'm Gonna Lose You is just weird. She wrote it about her brother. It grosses me out lol.

I feel like a grain of salt is necessary with my comment because I am at so many weddings, but .... (and I include ceremony songs too...)

1000 years, in any variation, with or without music

I think I want to Marry you (and I hate the lyrics too)

    The broken road

    That ukelele version of,well, anything.....

    hmmmm....I think that's it!

Weirdly enough, I've had a bunch of weddings recently using "I can't help falling in love with you" and "happy" and I can't get sick of either of them.

I know it's overplayed, but we're using TOL. I'm also walking down the aisle to Tenerife Sea and we were going to use Photograph, but I'll have to try She. We love Ed Sheeran, so even though the song is overplayed, it has special meaning to us. FH texted me that song about a month into our relationship and told me it reminded him of me. There's no other song that could be our first song which is what I think the First Dance ultimately is...something special to the couple.

I would just like to start my comment by saying that no matter how overplayed or sick of it anyone is, I think people should still pick the song THEY want as their first dance. If it speaks to you, pick it. Doesn't matter if it's been overplayed.

That being said... my top of "I don't wanna hear it again" list includes:

    At Last (bleck!)

    1000 Years

Thinking Out Loud - love the song, heard it too many times

    Like I'm gonna lose you
