Over or Under: Average Wedding Budget?

Maggie, on March 12, 2019 at 11:05 AM

Weddings cost a serious chunk of change, but couples still tend to underestimate how much they’ll spend on their wedding. Will you be over or under the average budget of $29,200? (Not including your engagement ring or honeymoon!) Is that more or less than you thought you’d spend on your wedding?...

Im trying to stay under, ceremony and reception for 100 people fed my budget is no more then 6000. My bridesmaids and grooms men are paying for their dresses and shoes and getting thier own makeup and hair. My dress was under 250 and i expect the same of the groom. we will be paying for our kids attire (8* kids together) at $50 or less each. want to spend no more the 300 on decorations for reception as my ceremony is beautiful as is. 200 for officiant, 400 for DJ, 500 to 1000 for a Photographer and videographer ( still looking for a combo deal)... ideal is under 8000 total with wiggle room of 10,000..... im skimping on makeup and hair for myself seems the groom is very picky on how i do it.. he wants normal lol... so i got places i can skimp out on cost but i dont count honeymoon as a wedding expense... that's where our wedding gifts come into place Smiley winking

When everything is said and done, it will be over. We live in a high cost of living area.

A house and a good start to your married life together is a good reason to use budget money elsewhere, I will admit, Maryann. Smiley winking

Did you have an idea of how everything was priced in your area, Kaitlyn, or were you surprised?

WAY WAY under. My budget is small, around 5000. Dollar Tree and Walmart are my friends!

Sadly waaaaaaay over. Not Including the honeymoon or rings we spent around 58- 60K. We live in Chicago though, so the price comes with the territory.

I think by the time it's all said and done we will be around $15-18k. Just depends on the number of RSVPs we get back! We have 75 outstanding people to account for.

Unfortunately over - we originally budgeted $30k but we're now looking to finish at around $45k 😖 we live in the Boston area though so everything is super expensive.

Under! We wanted to spend under 5k but realized real quick that wouldn't be possible without hosting at someone's house which wasn't possible for us. Luckily we've made it work without spending too much more than we originally wanted.

Believe we will be over by about $10,000. Yeesh. I tried to budget on a lot of things, but the venue is quite costly...
