Over or Under: 27k Wedding Budget?

Jayla, on September 11, 2018 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 1 187

This one is definitely a frequently asked question! When you exclude the engagement ring and the honeymoon, the average cost of a wedding is $27,000. Unfortunately, most couples budget an average of $16,000 for their wedding and 40% of couples go over their budget! Based on the total ceremony and reception costs, couples end up spending an average of $216 per guest.

Is your wedding budget in the same ballpark? Are you over or under $27,000? *you don't have to share exact numbers!!

Under, mine is about 12-13k at most, which is where I wanted to stay.

Budget was slightly under that number, but we have managed to stay WAY under budget with everything so far! So I guess you could say we're a "double under!" Smiley smile

Budget is way over that number. Getting married in California is a lot more expensive than other parts of the country!

    We didn't budget like this.

Wedding budget was 15K. We came in at budget.

Honeymoon budget was 5K. We came in at budget.

Right budget was 5K. We came in at budget.

Nothing was lumped together as they were separate from each other.

Under! Our original budget (before we started planning) was 5K which we quickly realized was unrealistic. We bumped it up to $7500 and we went a bit over probably coming in right around $8,200. We forgot about a lot of little things like the marriage license, stamps, boxes for people to take cake home, fees to have the rehearsal, etc. that all added up.

We went over on the average per guest price though. Looks like we are spending roughly $300 per guest (we invited 27 ppl). We knew we really wanted to splurge and treat our absolute closest loved ones to a fantastic wedding though so, it is well worth it to us.

Under the average. Our budget is currently $15000 (from our parents, we could contribute if we needed to) but so far looks like we can stay in that.

We didn't ever really set a budget because my parents know my taste isn't outrageous and we are all working together to make it exactly what FH and I want! I am, however hoping it is under 27K!

Our budget is WAY under that, and we've been able to stay under our budget so far.

Way under. We are paying for the wedding ourselves and had a budget of around 10k. Prob going to be about 12k when it’s all said and done. Which still seems ridiculous to me, spending so much on ONE day, ugh. But it will be a great day for sure!

Our honeymoon will be around 4K and I’m not sure what FH spent on my ring. Somewhere around 4-6k total I think.

We are on the cusp, it really depends on how many people show up.

Under. Probably end up around $9k by doing destination. Our per guest cost is way higher though with a small guest list.

That's definitely not bad! I think having a smaller wedding allows you to put more into the details and making it a great time for everyone

When discussing budgets some may feel that 10-12k is on the smaller scale but when you really think about it, it is a lot of money! It's definitely worth every penny though!!

We were right around there, with major vendors/items coming in at just under $25,000. But, that doesn't include some smaller things, like invitations, save-the-dates, wedding day jewelry and accessories, wedding party gifts, guest book, etc., which would bring the total closer to the average.

We paid about $110 pp for our 140-person wedding at a semi-inclusive venue in suburban Philadelphia, and saved a lot of money by having our wedding on a Friday night.

I think under. It’s hard for me to know for sure right now, as it’s gone up a lot from our initial budget of $10k. We were planning on a destination elopement originally. It’s turned into a bigger affair. But I’m still sure we’ll be under $27K.

I really need to track it better. It’s been difficult though. The wedding is in Canada, but I’m in California. So I have the exchange rate to figure out, plus things like my wardrobe for the day are all being purchases in the US, so it’s all of the place right now!
