outside wedding in chicago having trouble with picking the date in 2013

Lindsey, on January 4, 2012 at 12:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi....right now I am in a panic. I don't know what the best date to have an outdoor wedding in chicago would be. Especially with our weather here.

At first i was thinking 7/13/13 but then i was reminded that 13 could be a bad luck number and there will be an anniversary on friday the 13th. Should i even really care?

then we though maybe the last weekend in june but thats gay pride parade and getting around would be crazy. but thats the weekend that we met three years ago. so maybe june 22nd?

i don't know maybe it rains more in june then august?

please help!

I got married in the morning on a Saturday in June. The weather was perfect. It had rained a little over night, but stopped by the time the ceremony started. We were married in Palos Hills.

    Hello Chicago bride!

I am a chitown bride too! Smiley smile

Honestly I never care about that Friday the 13th ish---Im christian and so, it really doesnt bother me, so if I had to choose between the July date and June, Id pick the July cause the June parade really would make things difficult in terms of location and just getting around.

You dont seem like you follow the Friday the 13th belief, then I say go for it, because others believe in it doesnt mean you should tailor your date to others belief, its ur day afterall!

But then again, if your guests care about the date and decide they want to sit in their houses on that day because they are scared of "bad luck", then...........

    *thinking*

Well, thats where Id just ask you to use your judgement.

    Hi Lindsey!

I'm a Chicago-area bride too! I'm getting married the last weekend of June, and I took Pride into consideration (I go every year and several of my close friends participate in the parade). Pride is always the last full weekend of June, so in my case it will be the weekend before my wedding. So for 2013 if you had your wedding on the 22nd you'd be safe, but your anniversary may end up falling on a Pride weekend in future years.

Depending on where you are planning on getting married I will say that the Boystown/Halsted area the week before, during and after Pride tend to be packed and busy and traffic will be a mess, and there is also the Taste going on. This is good for out of town guests that may be coming in (activities they can do on their own) but hotel rates may be more expenisve.

I picked the end of June since weather in IL can be fickle and I wanted the outdoor flowers in full bloom for my outdoor ceremony (I originally planned for June 2nd).

    Thanks for all the responses!

What about 7/6/2013? I know that it's right by Fourth of July weekend but the taste should be over and that gives us the weekend after the 4th (i think is on a thursday)

Would that be cutting into guest plans?

June/July are big wedding months. I would start looking at where you want your reception to be and see what days they have available. I would pick June if I had the option though.

June would give you the best weather -probably. We changed ours to the Sunday of Labor Day weekend to get the Sunday discounts.
