Outdoor Wedding in June?

Kimberly S ( formerly Kimberly L ), on December 1, 2011 at 3:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

The average temperature in for June in Tupelo, Mississippi is 89 degrees. I really want so badly to have an outdoor wedding. Does anyone that that it would be too hot to have an outdoor wedding and reception that time of the year? The ideal start time would be 6 p.m. My FH wanted 4 but I told him by 6 it will have cooled off a bit. For the reception area, the plan is to have a tent and I have also priced portable air conditioners for $40 per day if needed. What do you all think?

Kimberly - I'm also having an outdoor ceremony in July starting at 5pm...FH would like to have the dinner outside and the party inside lol

I think as long as you have ways to keep the heat levels down then it will be fine but remember in the summer daylight is longer thus it not really cooling down until 8

I am also having my wedding in June. It is going to be under trees so I hope it will make it cooler.

We had our ceremony outdoors at 4:30 and a reception indoors at 5:30. I picked our date based off the fact we wanted an outdoor ceremony we wouldn't sweat our butts off at. Well, we went with the end of May. We had record highs this year. The day of our wedding at the time of our ceremony it was 91 degrees outside (that is not including the humidity). The average was 78 degrees. As long as you keep in mind that anything can happen and have a backup plan or something you should be fine. I am so glad we had an indoor reception because all of us were ready to get out of the heat!

I'm having an outdoor wedding in June and having the reception in a climate controlled tent. I think with the later start time you should be fine.

You could always consider having fans as your wedding programs/favors and place one on each seat or have ushers hand them out to your guests.

I think you will be ok. Hopefully it will be on the lower side of the average on your day. Once the party starts it will be cooling off.

I went to an outdoors wedding in July and it was about 98 degrees. It was one of those days that it doesn't even cool off when it gets dark. Everyone was hot, but I can honestly say it was the best wedding I have been too. Some of the groomsmen broke out the super-soaker water guns later in the night and everyone appreciated the cool down Smiley smile

Thanks and Sara fans are an option, I am considering it and have been looking for a place to order them.

The bottom line is this; would YOU want to be outside, all dressed up, for a half hour or so?

I wanted an outdoor reception and everyone told me know but my fiancee. It was so hot in DC the week of our wedding the caterer made an alternate plan to do the cocktail hour outside and everything else inside. I went to the venue and looked at when the sun was off our cocktail area and when it left the dinner/dancing area and decided we would be ok. Our ceremony was at 6:30 (off-site), and when the cocktails started at 7:30 the sun was off the reflecting pool. When guests sat down on the patio at 8:30 for dinner, the sun was setting and there was a good breeze coming off the river. It worked out for me - because of the venue. Without the sun being off the areas and the breeze from the river, I would have caved and gone inside for the comfort of the guests.

I should also add that the manor was air conditioned and had alot of comfy seating indoors, so guests could have gone inside to cool off if they had wanted. We were mostly concerned about our elderly guests.

Our wedding will be outside by lake in June in southwest Georgia! The ceremony will start at 6:30. The vendor will be providing water for our guests, and I bought fans for the guests. I've been playing with the idea of renting a tent.

I say do whatever will make you happy.

My cousins June wedding was HOTTTT (in Annapolis MD) but............... there were 4 industrial size fans (surprisingly well "disguised") an ice sculptue/drink luge and lots of liquids and I dont know the last time I had so much fun, go for it!! If you're very worried about it, go later, 7:30? (you'll be the talk of the town and it will be cooler by the time you are ready to let loose!)

This summer we were at a June outdoor wedding in Northern VA. It was a record high of almost 100 degrees. The ceremony wasn't long, but it was a little late. I was unhappy, but our guy friends in suits and ties were beyond miserable. The cocktail hour was even worse although it was indoors. But by the time everybody got inside, because it was so hot, and because there were so many people it was just awful. I understand wanting an outdoor wedding, but don't make your guests suffer :-)
