Dedicated September 2015

Our big day is overshadowed by someone's last wedding!

AlmostMrs.G, on February 6, 2015 at 3:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

Me and my future hubby are right in the middle of planning our wedding. The last person to get married was my cousin, who no longer talks to the family because of some drama on their wedding night. I did not expect their situation to have any effect on our wedding but it has! We have to stay away from certain colors, decorations and even music all because they will bring bad memories. It upsets me that we have to worry about things like this in order to not upset anyone. Has this or is this happening to anyone else?

I would say do what you want. Your wedding is for you and your husband. Sure you want guest to enjoy themselves, but no one should tell you what you have to do on your wedding day. I just don't see how people can do that.

The bride had an argument with her sis in law (the grooms sister, my cousin) about silly things like the bachelorette party, money. Now they totally cut themselves off from the entire family, my aunt and uncle included. It's been a year and a half since their wedding.

I don't see how anyones drama should affect your wedding plans. it is your day do, say, wear and plan whatever you want!

I'm trying my very best! I've told my aunt that I'm not trying to make her upset on purpose but that we can't help what we like!

Yeah, not sure how decor and color would bring up bad memories.

You don't have to change things. Just do what you want to do and if people say that it reminds them of the other wedding, tell them that your wedding is a drama free zone. Don't feed the beast.

Lol at my mums last wedding the groom and the best man were having a punch up in the hall, and they aren't trying to control aspects of my wedding. You should honestly do what you want, say that you hope it will not cause offence but it's your day, and when that goes well there will be no bad feeling towards it hopefully. If you feel strongly enough, rip the band aid and do it x

Colors???? Omg...it's your wedding...is your cousin 12??? Amber, this is YOUR day, not your day to babysit your family. Go about planning your day exactly how you want! If they hound you about it, such as questions about specifics....tell them your not sure yet then once the wedding is here , you'll be so busy and surrounded by your loved ones, that unless they make a scene..there's NOTHING they can do Smiley winking

She made her own mess, not you. Do what you want and they'll just have to live with it. What, every time she sees Tiffany blue your aunt is going to have a meltdown? She's going to have a long, ugly future.......

I agree with everyone else. Stick to what you love. Hopefully the negative thoughts to these things with get negated because of your wedding.

I am confused on how colours would upset someone...... I feel like a year and a half would be long enough to be desensitized to the reaction of a colour..... Do what you want

Do what you want for your wedding. I don't think folks will be comparing your weddings.

Sounds ridiculous....colors and decorations have nothing to do with old drama. Do what you and your FH please.

Don't tell your family what you are planning. If they are drama, they'll cause trouble no matter what you do.
