Opinions on February 13th wedding date?

Kristen, on July 28, 2019 at 8:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hi everyone!

I'm new here and just getting started with all this planning! G and I got engaged at the beginning of this month and we are deciding between an August 2020 wedding and a February 2021 wedding. I am a teacher and my time off is pre-determined; it is not an option for me to take time off during the school year. August is part of my summer break, and my district has a "midwinter break" which is about a week in mid-February. We are leaning towards February because of the steep discounts offered at the venues during this month (in the NYC area). In order to honeymoon right after the wedding (this is important to us), the February wedding date would have to be Saturday, February 13th. Weather issues aside, do you think it will be frustrating to our guests to affect their Valentine's Day plans? Personally, I don't care about V-day, but I know some people do. What do you all think?

I love Weddings so it wouldn’t bother me but others might not go because of the holiday

It is the day before. And they are able to celebrate it anyway.

With that said: why wouldn’t they be happy. Maybe the favors could be mini champagne bottles and a pair of truffles? That way people could celebrate!

If people choose to not attend your wedding because it's on V-Day, I want to know what big thing they have going on. If you're cool with February 13th, I say go for it!

Another consideration is that some of your vendors (e.g., florists) might be more expensive or more difficult to book (Valentine's Day is the busiest/most expensive day of the year for florists). I haven't checked the calendar, but that date might also align with "President's weekend," which in some locations might impact air travel & lodging costs. I'm a teacher, so I completely get having to schedule around school holidays, but there are some downsides -- mostly because they are holidays for others as well. Good luck!

FWIW -- we have close family members whose anniversaries are Feb 10 and 13, and traveled cross country for both weddings, so it seems like a good date to me! Smiley winking

I didn't think about those things! I think the following Monday is President's Day... I will have to start asking venues if that affects pricing (especially those that include rooms)

Thanks! Just figured that some might see this as a nice romantic getaway option too, and why not add the romance for them into it? Hotel bags can have heart snapped items and Hershey kisses!
And go get the cute little lollipops and valentines cards you gave out in grade/elementary school for each persons escort/table card! Sorry I’m on a planning cutesy role!

We come from a big family of teachers (and current students! Smiley winking ). Daughter got married on the MLK weekend Saturday. That worked well for us, because lots of people had the Monday holiday, but it's so soon after Christmas that travel is kind of slow. She got a major discount at her venue for January and hotels and flights were pretty inexpensive. Yay! A teacher's win-win! Smiley winking

I think that would be a fine day to do it, especially for the discounts, but do take in mind that flowers will most likely be more expensive. They would be the first vendor I would book after the venue.

I don’t think it would be such a big issue about having the wedding the day before Valentine’s Day. But I also love weddings and it would be fun.

I don't think Valentine's Day is that big of a holiday to where it would really affect peoples RSVPs. It's not like Christmas or Thanksgiving where people go out of town.

My birthday is February 13th so of course I love it. I don't know how many die-hard Valentine's celebrators there really are, and if they are, I would think they may enjoy going to a wedding which is a celebration of love. I think you can go with it but just beware that everything is more expensive especially flowers. But, if the venue costs are less maybe it will offset it.

I would do it and make the favors (if you choose to do them) valentines related. Or if you like the red color play up the date.

We don't do much for valentines day anyway so this would actually be an excuse to go out and I wouldn't have to sit in a crowded restaurant/bar.

Got married Valentine’s Day of 2019 it was a Thursday find a florist who does not have a store front shop and only does weddings it did not effect the pricing doing it that way . Vendors where cheaper because it was midweek and a lot of people came from out of town because it was presidents weekend . And what is more fun then celebrating love on or near Valentine’s Day .
hotel pricing didn’t effect us but I think it depends where you are located our wedding was in Estes Park Co

Personally I prefer the warmer weather so mine is in August, but February would be super cute! I can't imagine people not attending because of the holiday.. V day isn't really a "go out of town" holiday, it's more of a "stay in and snuggle" holiday lol. Save your money and go for February!
