Opinions Needed: Favors

Chelsea, on March 31, 2020 at 9:23 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18

Hi! I am getting married (next summer — working on my slating my budget, haha!) in a botanical garden. We are going with a theme of "Let Love Grow." Because of this, I'm wanting to do a plant type of favor. Which would you all prefer as a guest? I originally thought of doing both — succulent per couple/household and wildflower seeds for each person.

Cute theme! Well, I’m not into plants or gardening. So, out of the two, the succulent would be my choice because it’s small and already growing in a pot. I wouldn’t do anything with the seeds besides leave them on the table for someone else.

I love them both but I probably wouldn’t remember to plant the seeds and even if I did I would probably forget about them. So I definitely would do the succulent.

Definitely the succulent. It’s cute and most people won’t plant the seeds.

Awe, both ideas are so cute! So if you don't go with both, I like the succulent! (Just bc personally, I'm not a planter lol so I like that the succulent is already ready for display lol!)

That's what I figured! I love the wildflower seeds... but I also love to garden. Thanks for the outside opinion!

Both are very cute. I’d maybe choose just one to cute down on cost if that’s a concern of yours. Succulents are very expensive. I’m doing it for my shower. If you do a succulent per family, maybe assign someone or a couple people to passing them out as people walk in because if it’s a free for all, people WILL take more than they’re supposed to.

I suppose the succulent, as well.

We don't have any place to keep plants (live in a tiny place in a city), so it'd likely end up with my ILs. Though a plant is a lot nicer as a favor than a shot glass, IMHO.

We didn't do favors, and no one noticed.

This is cute! We wanted to do something similar, but we had people traveling from out of the country. I wanted to point-out (because we almost totally forgot about this) that if people are flying from out of the country, they could get in trouble being in possession of plants or seeds when they fly back to their home country. Obviously this is a very specific situation and it might not even apply to you, but we almost forgot about this and my husband's family is from the UK and we didn't want to get them detained at the airport for smuggling! Smiley xd

I love gardening so I would go for the seeds as I have a lot of house plants already lol but having the option of the two would be cute too!

I probably wouldn't take either. I would forget to plant the seeds and the succulent would quickly die in my care. But, if I had to choose, I would take the succulent.

What about fresh rosemary sprig or two? You could use as place setting decor. And guests may take it home (I would!).

We’re already doing something similar! Our colors are lavender and sage. Since I grow lavender, I’m using fresh and dried sprigs throughout. They’ll have them with their invitations and at their place settings!

I like the seeded paper for everyone best. They are really pretty.

I love both ideas, but I wouldn't plan for both for each guest. I'd maybe provide half and half and allow them to choose if you really like both ideas so much. But being that your date is in June, that's a little past planting time at least in my neck of the woods, so the succulents would likely get the best use.

I think already bloomed succulents are cute. Seeds are neat too, but people usually forget to pot them or get impatient, etc. Already grown plants are easy.
