Online or In store wedding dress

Jai, on October 20, 2019 at 5:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 19
What has everyone's experience been buying a wedding dress online vs in store? I've been finding cheaper dresses online and thought about trying it, but am skeptical. We don't get married until May 9 2020, so I have time to decide.

I’m personally an advocate of at least trying things on in store to get an idea of what different silhouettes look like on your body type. With buying online just be careful because there are a lot of Asian knockoff sites out there. But Azazie, cocomelody, Lulu’s, and BHLDN are all really reputable.

I recommend anomalie 100% they are online and do everything custom for you, I tried some dresses at a boutique just to see what suits me better and ended up falling in love and buying it so it could be tricky. But anomalie is a great place to look

I have no experience with online wedding dress shopping, other than just browsing. I have a friend of a friend who did it, and she said it turned out well. (She had dress regret, so it was a 2nd choice.)

I personally went to 1 bridal salon only, and FELL IN LOVE with the experience. I feel as though the individual salon plays a huge role in how you feel. My stylist was so super awesome, I literally call her my dress angel. I felt so beautiful in everything I put on, it was all within my price range, and it was a dream come true. (Ripped right out of "Say Yes To The Dress")

But my girlfriend went to a bridal salon to try on dresses, and I witnessed how that stylist treated her... Everything she put her in was over budget, and constantly making her feel bad about her "low budget", and arguing with her mother about dress materials. It was a hot mess.

Just try a salon, it really could pay off, and those are memories you'll never forget. Smiley smile I would never have wanted to try my dress on for the first time in my own bedroom. But that's just me.

I definitely think you should go in the store and try the experience. However, I’ve also been looking online too and like the options there more. Azazie allows you try dressings on for $15. I definitely recommend them if you’re considering an online shop.

Just wanted to link this here! https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/buy-dress-from-bridal-shop-or-get-it-made-by-a-local-designer/2a69cb02414b35f7.html

It's a bride's experience I've followed a little bit through online ordering. Its a custom dress, so that might be different than what you're considering. But nevertheless, Smiley smile

I'm thinking the same thing. I found so many online I love that I'm having my Sisters vote to help narrow down the choices.

There might be a store near you that offers gently used or like new dresses if you’re on a budget. I have looked online at ModCloth. Some department stores have them too! Azazie sells some !
What I realized when I shopped was that styles of dresses I thought I wanted were not the ones I liked as much when I saw them on me.

I would only buy a dress online if I could try it on at a salon first, or the place has a great return policy (like Lulus).

Going to my first dress appointment, I 110% thought I knew exactly what I wanted and what would look flattering on me. I ended up with a different silhouette and color.

As PPs mentioned, I'd definitely recommend going to a shop and experimenting with different types of styles, fabrics, colors, etc., so that if you do opt for the online option, you'll have a better idea of what will work best for you.

I was originally planning on buying my dress online. I’m actually super glad I didn’t. When I went in to try things on, they didn’t fit me quite as I’d imagined and I didn’t like them as much. I ended up picking out a dress I don’t think I am ever would have picked online. I absolutely love it. My salon was also very nice and my consultant was super sweet.

I got mine online and winged it to be honest aha. But I was so lucky it actually came out really beautifully. But I love what PP said about trying on styles in person first.

I got my first dress online. It came from China. It was beautiful but just not right for me. I ended up shopping in store and getting at David’s bridal.
