Ok, I'm getting married on Halloween & I need some ideas...

Mandy, on October 6, 2009 at 5:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 37

I want a real wedding, I mean, it's still my wedding day, & it still needs to be perfect, but I want to throw some unusual stuff in there too. I will not be having a costume wedding like most of my friends say I should have, but I do plan on having jack-o-lanterns carved for the occassion. I know it sounds wierd, but we started dating on Halloween in 2006 & I have this wierd thing about our anniversary being on the same day. Idk, I'm wierd, but we both love Halloween & we are known for being different. Any ideas?

Hi Mandy, First of all thats a cool day to get married. I was going to get married a week b/4 halloween and I was (or rather, still am) going to have fake pumpkins with our names and date carved into them for centerpieces surrounded by leaves and mini gourds exct. I think it would be cool to have a candy buffet, also I was going to serve soup in bread bowls. Not doing that anymore, unfortunatly. Your not wierd at all, I think its awesome. Also, you could have like leaves or bats attached to fishing string hanging above the tables. Well whatever u decide good luck. R u new 2 WW? Never seen u on here. O, also for the reception maybe u could have a fun game, like ppl telling ghost stories and serve apple cider. Anyways, its whatever u decide, good luckSmiley smile

How halloween do you want to be? halloween themed? or just slightly? maybe more fall themed? with some halloween accents? play on the colors alot, maybe some dried leaves? you could do pumkin center pieces, or maybe have carved pumkins, but not with jac-o-lantern faces, maybe more of a design so the whole table can see with candles that would be cool

Lol! That sounds great SCheeks! & yes, I'm new, lol! I just found the site the other day & I just got engaged the week before last! lol!

    & Shell, I don't really know. I know I want jack-o-lanterns, but I don't want Halloween colors so much...I want black & a deep, dark red...

Hi Mandy - I'm getting married on Halloween too & we are NOT having a Halloween wedding (We had a costume party for our engagement party last Halloween). We have carved funkins (foam pumpkins) on the tables with pretty designs, not jack-o-lantern faces, & then we're putting battery operated mini-lights in them. For our reception, we're having a masquerade.

Centerpieces are pumpkins that are hollowed out and filled with water and flowers floating on top

For a little touch of Halloween during the dance portion your reception, have your band or DJ play "Monster Mash" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller"!

When I think of Halloween and the colors black and deep, dark red...i think of vampires. I think vampires are very sexy and erotic. Not sure how you could incorporate them in a wedding...i will think about it.

One thing you can do is set it up so it almost looks like a halloween party. have some not-too-cheesy decorations, and if you want, use large metal basins for decorations, fill them with water, sprinkle some leaves in there for effect, and add apple candles! you cut holes into apples the size of a tealight and put tealights in them. then they float and it looks like a bobbing for apples game.lol i saw it somewhere and thought it was cute

Have a costume party or masquerade. You could stick with some classy elements but still have the fun of Halloween.

Oh, & Goodnote, I love the song ideas! lol! & Meg, I totally agree with you, those are actually my wedding colors, black & deep, dark red...& we love vampires, but your right on the incorperating them into the wedding...I have no clue! lol! & thanks so much to Traci_Bob & CelticChick831 for the links, I will definelty look into them! That's unique Devine2Be but like I said, I want to be unique. & now I am definetly taking the masquerade reception idea into consideration now! Thanks so much for all your ideas guys!!!

Music from Nightmare Before Christmas (or any Oingo Boigo or Danny Elfman Music) or Music from The Corpse Bride or Phantom of the Opera would help set the mood. Also, some Gregorian Chants as background (love those at Halloween)

Masquerade type masks would be very cool incorporated into the centerpiece or as favors. The candy buffet seems very appropriate for halloween (candy corn, etc) or those goody bags folks used to give to trick or treaters.

I love the idea of Jack o' Lanterns. How about bare branches, strung with lights or perhaps lanterns with tea lights, on the tables? Also love the idea of the hollowed out apples with tealights in them. You could also do this with gourds, etc. Or caramel/candy apples.

    Ahhhh....I love Halloween!

I'm getting married this halloween & we're not having a costume wedding. more of a masquerade ball theme halloween tied in. i'm going to have masquerade masks around & other "costume" things - fake vampire teeth, etc - incase people want to feel like they are in costume. the masks will be in the centrepieces with tall feathers.

i have orange shoes & FH has an orange vest. the BMs have black dresses with purple shoes & the GM have black shirts with purple ties.

of course you need a candy buffet as well. we are having a full dessert/candy table. lots of cookies shaped into bats & pumpkins, etc.

there's so many things you can do! good luck & i can post some pics to help with ideas!

You can drill holes in pumpkins for a great non-jack-lantern-ey effect:

If you want to go in a more elegant direction with the black & red theme:
