Oh...boy- Potluck Wedding & BYOB

FutureMrsTurcios, on October 4, 2016 at 12:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

I just got a notification about something on one of the Bride groups I'm a part of on FB and as I scrolled I ran into this....

The fact that people have not only "liked" but also "loved" this post just made my sleep deprived ass face palm so hard.

Oh I think you should answer this bride honestly. She is asking for opinions...

Lol. 100+ *very* close friends and family.

I won't even bother to comment on potluck weddings.

Must be some parallel universe.....because I'd be RSVP'ing 'no' to this debacle.

If your inviting 'close friends and family'', let them come without those green beans with the crunchy onions on top...

Oh I did.. I put it nicely but I can see that it's going to be drowned out by all those saying

"GO FOR IT, THAT'S A GREAT IDEA"

"Yes, that's very vintage. That's how it used to be done"

some even saying"Food poisoning? lol! I say do it. U hear ppl getting food poisoning at all kinds of restaurants."

This was my response...I thought short and sweet might do the trick.

    I'm probably wrong though

Do they have to bring their own toilet paper for the potty?

Just a small 100 ??!?!! IMO, if I had to bring my own food and beer to a wedding, your gift would be reduced a bit...... Plus for me, just meh I like having control over what's what. Knowing the food is coming from somewhere professionally done etc.

The thing is, that these people actually think this is okay or they wouldn't ask. Dollars to donuts the people who love it are also doing potluck/self catered/cash bar/dry weddings, and they think that is totally okay.

    It's not okay.

Also making a dish for 100 people is an insane thing to ask anyone other than a catering company.

I don't even like 100 people yet consider 100+ close friends and family. Shit.

I don't know what's worse: self catered, or potluck.

"Very Vintage" and "the way it used to be done"? No, it wasn't done that way back then, either. At least, not by people with any manners.

Potluck receptions are cheesy, no way around that. Always were, always will be.

@Celcia - I like the green beans with the crunchy stuff. :0)

Potluck - I have always avoided them. I just can't.
