NWR: They ran out of food!?

MrsND, on August 31, 2015 at 9:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I attended a Quinceañera (Hispanic girls sweet 15) this weekend and I know it isn't the same as a wedding but it might as well be. With a guest list of at least 300. We went to the Catholic mass at 2 and then the dinner wasn't going to start until 5. It actually gave us time to pick up my other sister to who wasn't able to make it to the mass because she was working.

Anyway we get there and of course it's a free for all on where you sit and talk about freaking awkward when people are saving tables!!!! This woman was saving 4 tables!!!! It made it more uncomfortable to just stand there and try to find a table that wasn't "saved" so then it's time for food. We stand in a long line and finally make it and realize there is NO FOOD LEFT!!! YES, THEY RAN OUT OF FOOD!!!

I knew they had an idea of at least of how many people were coming because you had to have an invitation to get to the party! Just had to put that out there because I still can't believe they ran of food

Don’t have a party if you can’t even provide food! This post is more of how annoyed I was with this event and I guess realization of importance of at least assigning tables. Any HAPPPYY MONDAYYY 

Very poor planning on their part. I'm sure you weren't the only frustrated guest!!

I went to a charity event on Saturday evening, it was a BBQ and outdoor concert. My best friend and I got there early, walked around and chit-chatted with people we knew and then ate dinner and got set up for the outdoor concert. We kept remarking on how the dinner line in front of the BBQ tent just was NOT moving.

When the band was introduced about 15 minutes later it was also announced they were out of food, but the caterer would be bringing more. She also mentioned that she was very sorry because they confirmed the numbers with the caterer, but there was some sort of snafu.

It was full dark (around 9pm) by the time everyone was served food, and they got in line at 6pm!

Tickets were NOT cheap and you had to purchase online so it was kind of ridiculous. I was glad we got there early and got in line.

Ugh. This is why you need a seating chart! I hate fighting for a seat.

The food thing is obviously inexcusable.

The last wedding i attended with FH ran out of food as well. i am still not sure if anyone told the B&G. but there was no meat left for the last three tables. And the last half of the tables only got one small piece of chicken (imagine big tall grown men walking back to the table with just a chicken leg on their plate shaking their heads literally). We were the second to last table so we didnt eat, until the cater went to a nearby popeyes and came back with more food. most ppl at our table had left by then, one older couple at our table was very insulted. and the wedding was very nicely decorated in a fancy venue, with photobooth, and donut bar (and wedding cake)... but you run out of food. this was only my second wedding i attended with a seating chart/assigned tables, and just like the first it was a disaster. Its bad enough to run out of food (thats the worst thing that can happen at a reception IMO) but to run out with seating arrangements means that the ppl you felt were back of the room, end of the line, last to be served get the short end of the stick. the entire reception conversation consisted of everyones plans to eat immediately after leaving, and how hungry we all were.
