NWR: NuvaRing

Mr. Bigglesworth, on April 4, 2011 at 3:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

Many of y'all know I've been looking forward to my upcoming gyno appt (which was today) to get on a good birth control. I wanted an I.U.D. but that wasn't an option for me per my gyno so i took her advice. I opted for the NuvaRing.

Have any of y'all ever used NuvaRing, if so what are your thoughts on it?

More questions:

- Has it ever fallen out?

- How do you apply yours? Any good methods?

- Can you feel it? Can HE feel it? (good questions from Fins)

- How much did it cost you (after insurance)?

- Any weight gain?

- Skin irritation, like acne?

- Did it affect your sex drive?

I'm on it, and i loooooove it. i have virtually no side effects- the first month i was getting some headaches, but that faded away really quickly. it's easy and i only have to think about it twice a month.

i really can't say enough good things about it! haha, i was really surprised at how much i loved this, since i was a great big nutcase when i was on the pill!

I saw NuvaRing and had to share my preggo friend's story. She has just started dating this guy in Dec. She had the NuvaRing and apparently it had come out and she found it stuck to her pajama pants (it had been washed). She had no idea and now she is surprisingly pregnant! Don't know how often that happens but just wanted to share! :-)

Can you tell me how much you paid for yours (after insurance)? If that was the case for you of course.

Marissa! Don't tell me that! haha That's scary! I think I'll still be practicing the 'pull out' method regardless, until after the wedding at least.

I'm on it and I also LOOOOOVE it. I've never had it fall out and Dh doesn't feel it.

I don't feel it either. However I will say that putting it in and and taking it out took some getting used to (DH did it for me for the first few times)

My co-pay varies becuase for some reason my insurance doesn't cover all of it so I pay anywhere from $29-$36 for it.

I put it in just like they recommend; pinch in half and insert but usually have to do a little arranging (I push in further just to be sure it doesn't come out) . It does take some practice though

I'm on it and love it except it screws with my sex drive some which I hate. FH can get me in the mood but he has to work for it! lol

I can't feel it, he can feel it but it doesn't bother him and I've never had it come/fall out! I have crappy insurance right now so mine is 68/month after insurance but after we're married and I'm on FH it will be either 5 or 15!

I tried it for a few months and it didn't work out for me.

The Pros: super easy to insert and remove

It was like having a sex toy during sex (at least for me)

He did feel it, but it didn't bother him in the least.

    The cons:

It messed with my mood so much that I was depressed and sobbing like a baby for 2 weeks straight.

I forget what I paid, but can't imagine it was more than $30/month.

I'm on it and I LOVE it! It's the best thing ever. I can't feel it at all. FH takes it out during foreplay, because TMI, the first time we had sex with it in it came out on him.. it was funny, but now we just take it out so we know exactly where is it. I have amazing insurance so I only pay $3 a month for it, but even if it was way more it would be completely worth it! And just always make sure to push it up as far as you can so theres no chance of it coming out.

I've never, ever had it fall out! I only paid $5.

Putting it in is easy, just pinch it with your fingers and push it up, and to take it out you just hook your finger on the side of it and pull it out.

he's only said he felt it once, and it didn't bother him at all. once it's in, i never feel it.

I've been on it for about three years now. It costs me $25 and has no side effects (unlike every other option I've tried). I just put it in on my own, but in the beginning, I used an empty tampon to push it in (if that's not too graphic or confusing). I think you'll like it. It's very low maintenance.

I used it and loved it - it bumped up my bra size, but didn't make me gain any other weight. It was $30 on my BCBS insurance, and $9 on my Tricare. I couldn't feel it and FH couldn't feel it, it never fell out, and it was super easy to put in and take out (and so much better than trying to remember to take a pill at exactly the same time every single day). I definitely recommend it.

I'm on it too and I think its great I've had no side effects tht I can telll..and Neither I or FH can feel it... If you are worried about it falling out during sex you can actually remove it for a few hours without worrying about getting pregnant you just rinse it and put it back in... I pay $30 a month for it

I used it for 4 months, it was about $20 with my co-pay. I stopped using it because my insurance rates changed and it was going to go up to $70 or so. I just ended up getting on the pill because those were only $10 a month.

It came out one time but that was probably my fault, I don't think I put it in correctly, and I TOTALLY felt it coming out-so I don't think it would 'slip' out unnoticed. Except for that one time that it came out, I never felt it and neither did DS. My main issue with the Nuvaring (sorry if this is TMI) was that it made me have some discharge. The Dr said that was a normal side affect for some women and most of the time it regulated within 6-9 months. But since I only had it for 4 months I can't tell you if that was the case or not.

This is very helpful! thank you!

Did anyone else notice a lower level of sex drive? That concerns me!

Also, I do not want my boobs to go up a size, they're out of control as it is! lol!

I wish my boobs went up a size! LOL! I didn't notice a lower sex drive, but me and DS were in a long distance relationship at the time, when we would visit each other, there was NO PROBLEM there!

    I LOVE it.

    - Has it ever fallen out? --- Never, but if it does it's all your fault because you can feel it coming down lower. Think of how it feels when a tampon isn't in far enough.

    - How do you apply yours? Any good methods? ---- It's not awkward. Just use my fingers... no special anything about it.

    - Can you feel it? Can HE feel it? ---- I can't feel it unless it drops down low. He can feel it sometimes, but it's not a big deal to him at all.

    - How much did it cost you (after insurance)? --- I get mine for no cost. Working in health care = awesome insurance.

    - Any weight gain? ----- Nope!

    - Skin irritation, like acne? -----Nope!

    - Did it affect your sex drive? ----- I have a low sex drive as it is, so I can't really comment too much on this.

I was on it but had super bad mood swings with it(have had this prob with multipul bc) was freaking my FH out a little haha. I had it fall out during sex once but there was alot of alcohal involved. no other side effects though. my insurance would only cover 3 months at a time and the job i was working i would be away for who knows how long so i bought a yrs worth which was spendy i think $150 a piece. besides that it was the least problems with bc ive had.
