NWR: NuvaRing

Many of y'all know I've been looking forward to my upcoming gyno appt (which was today) to get on a good birth control. I wanted an I.U.D. but that wasn't an option for me per my gyno so i took her advice. I opted for the NuvaRing. Have any of y'all ever used NuvaRing, if so what are your thoughts...

Have any of y'all ever used NuvaRing, if so what are your thoughts on it?

More questions:

- Has it ever fallen out?

- How do you apply yours? Any good methods?

- Can you feel it? Can HE feel it? (good questions from Fins)

- How much did it cost you (after insurance)?

- Any weight gain?

- Skin irritation, like acne?

- Did it affect your sex drive?

    I LOVE IT!!!!

    - It has fallen out twice on me during sex .. just check after- if you put it right back in your fine. make sure if you pick it up from the pharmacy and are not putting it in right away you put it in the refrigerator! DOes not effect sex drive for me

    - How do you apply yours? Any good methods?

    * Just squeeze it between your thumb and pointer finger, leg up on the toliet seat and insert like a tampon.. you may need to do some "squirming" (like putting on tight pants haha) to get it to settle in

    - Can you feel it? Can HE feel it? (good questions from Fins)

    * I can feel it until it settles (about 5 mins of wearing it). FH can not feel it. (the night it fell out he thought it was a gel bracelet in our bed HAHAHA)

    - How much did it cost you (after insurance)?

    * $13

    - Any weight gain?

    * none, thank gosh- I cant afford that

    - Skin irritation, like acne?

    * none, although it doesnt help with acne like the pill

When do you put it in for the first time? The day your period ends? I'm trying to figure out when to start

Yes, put it the day your period ends, take it out exactly 3 weeks later, wait a week and put the new one in ( even if you still have a light period) ..it should come with a little packet that will explain a lot, i think i read it 5 times before i did it for the first time lol

I have been on Nuvaring for three years. I love the convenience (only have to deal with it 2x/month) and that I had no side effects at all.

    - Has it ever fallen out? Yes, maybe 3 times and it's always during a certain position.... ;0)

    - How do you apply yours? Any good methods? I apply it as the package advises, not much different than inserting a tampon, just much smaller.

    - Can you feel it? Can HE feel it? (good questions from Fins): I cannot feel it 99 percent of the time, he says he can sometimes but it doesn't bother him enough to want to take it out.

    - How much did it cost you (after insurance)? Oh man, I used to be on my stepdads insurance and it cost me $5/month, I'm not covered anymore and I pay $75!! I liked the product so much I didn't switch.

    - Any weight gain? No

    - Skin irritation, like acne? No

    - Did it affect your sex drive? No

I have tried NuvaRing. For me it was really bad as with most high hormone birth controls in my case. It didn't fall out, not even once. He couldn't feel it, but it caused other health problems. I had more bad more swings, very sick with the imbalance of hormones in my body (it gave off too much for me), my sex drive was non-existent and it caused lots of irritation (sorry for TMI) in that area. My insurance covered it. The empty tampon way is the best to put it in. It can be messy taking it out. No weight gain...I think that was everything.

Too bad you couldn't get the IUD. Its fantastic though a lot better if you've already had kids since most doctors wont give it to you unless you do.

I love the ring! It can be a little awkward at first to put in and take out but you get used to it really fast. I was really bad at remember to take a pill at the same time every day so the ring is perfect for me. I have only had mine fall out once and TMI but it was when I was really sick with a bad tummy ache and had to use the restroom a lot.

FH has said he only has felt it at certain times. I am very lucky to have good skin but I used to get at least a pimple or two at that time of the month and now I don't get any! Mine costs $30/a month. I agree with some of the girls on here that it did increase my bra size a little - but I don't think FH minds that at all ha! I would say that it has lowered my sex drive a little - which just makes us try all that much harder to get in the mood (and I don't mind that at all!). Hope that helps!

Oh I should also say that my best friend went on it and for some reason it turned her into a CRAZY hormonal chick. She will even be the first to admit that it made her go a little crazy but I think that was a very rare case.

Hmm, well maybe I was too quick to say it had no side effect...maybe that is why I am such an irritable bitch, hmmm.

I have used it for ages and i really like it! I agree with everyone that says you can tell if you are going to lose it. You can definitely feel it if it is coming out or not positioned properly, but once it is in it is great and there is no more thinking about it for 3 weeks! FH has felt it before, but it has never bothered either of us. It has been my favorite BC that i have used, and it has never made me overly hormonal, gain weight, or affected my skin.

Oh something else that i would freak oout about was if i forgot to take it out right on the day it was supposed to and i guess it runs out of hormones or something because i would still start and then id remember to take it out a little gross though. and another thing i had was i have never been a person to start late but with the nuva ring i would go 2-4 days off before i would start so dont freak if your a little later then normal

I was on it and had to get off. I had terrible mood swings, horrible headaches, cramping, ZERO sex drive, and gained 20lbs.

Im on the NuvaRing and my boobs are also out of control but no I didnt gain anymore boobage or weight on the nuvaring. In fact I've been steadily losing weight (and Ive been on it since October). I pay $9 a month for it with TriCare. It has never fallen out as I make sure to push it in as far as it will go and my husband doesnt ever feel it. As far as sex drive, no it hasnt reduced my sex drive hehe.

When I first got on it I was a bit emotional for a few weeks while my body adjusted to the hormones but otherwise Im just regular ol' me who cries when I PMS but thats nothing new.

I usually like to start it on sunday so i know its the first day of the week. u leave it in for 3 weeks & then take it out. the week u take it out ur period should come, but make sure u put in back in the following(same weekday u put in in) regardless of if ur still on ur period...& u continue to do that same cycle every 3 weeks

I was told to leave mine in for 25 days, instead of 21 so that it's not such a shock to my body when the estrogen stops (or whatever that stuff is)

Along with what Miss Me is saying, and in response to Wendy - the ring doesn't 'run out' of hormones after 21 days. In fact, it can still keep going for a while. My OBGYN has me using it for 28 days, then taking it out and immediately putting another in (so I don't bleed), and then the next month take it out after 28 days, wait 4 days to begin bleeding and put another one back in. My period only comes for 2 days with that method because once you put another one back in the bleeding basically stops.

My body only lets me skip one month at a time, but she has patients who can go up to 6 months without bleeding (and therefore, just taking it out after 28 days and replacing it right away).

The Nuva can be used so many different ways & the 21 days in 7 out way is just the most popular because that way you're alwys putting in and taking out on the same day of the week. I don't mind what I'm doing because I hating getting my period and the method she has me using cuts my periods in 1/2.
