You can give them a little bit of children's benadryl or dramamine - just go by the weight. If there's no puncture, then maybe he just needs to sleep it off.

So there is no open wound? Is he just achy and sore? My dog (a little pug) was attacked by a pitbull once. In addition to the lacerations he had whiplash from being whipped around so hard by the pit. Don't give him advil or anything like that. Benadryl is fine but it's tricky getting the doses just right. If your dog has no punctures so there is no danger of infection I think you should just try to get him to lie still for the night and relax his muscles. He probably pulled something if it was a struggle. So sorry, I know how traumatizing it is. I literally had to wrestle that pit's jaws off of my dog. He also ripped some of my dog's muscles away from the bones...believe it or not he was totally fine, they just had me keep the wound clean, put him on antibiotics for infection, and he healed perfectly. They're often more resilient than we think!

Yeah, my dog was attacked by a much bigger dog a few weeks ago and other than being bloody and shaken up he was fine - it was kind of cute the other dog that was there (not the one who attacked) walked in all worried and was nuzzling Chester like "are you all right?!?!" and Chester hops up and tugs on her ear and off they went. If there are no other injuries then it may just be shock.

I will be a bit different in opinion. I would take your dog to the vet....he/she may have internal injuries.

With, or without doughage, my pets are family, so that is where I come from, in my opinion.

I hope that your dog is doing fine.

PS....work with your vet. You can make payments, if need be. But your pet is in pain.

For one if you know the people or the dog go to them , and show what they did too your dog, and if you do know these people take your dog too the vet and bring the bill straight too them, and make them pay.

I agree use benedryl or gravol.. i hope your puppy is ok Smiley sad

You should consider to buy a pet's insurance, the basic is like $19.99 a month.

I have to agree with Kathy R. I used to work at an animal hospital and sometimes the dog may not have a wound showing on the outside, but couls have internal injuries and they can be serious. It's a possibility that they aren't serios, but also a possibility that they are. If you love your dog, I wouldn't chance it. Better to be safe than sorry. Try to find a vet that does payments. My dog needed a $1200 leg surgery a few months ago and the vet was great with me making payments on it.

What's with all the dog horror stories in the past couple days..first mine eats gum that's poison to her, now your dog gets attacked!

I'm right with you, I have no money either, and my bill is over $600!!!!!!!!! They're letting me pay in installments! Talk to them, they might be able to help you out!

I agree with Future Mrs B and Brian. You shouldn't even have to pay the vet bill. The owner of the dog who attacked yours should be responsible.

I think a pet in pain ALWAYS necessitates a vet visit. Like the others said, vets are usually more than happy to work out payment plans for people who don't have the full amount at the time of treatment. Additionally, I also agree that the other person should be liable for the bills (this gets tricky if you actually know/are friends with/are related to the other dog's owner). I advocate humane and responsible pet ownership - if someone can't afford to pay a pet's medical bills, they should invest in insurance or choose not to care for animals (and I do understand how expensive it is...my great dane has cost just over $5k in the last year in vet bills!). I really hope your puppy feels better soon, furbabies in pain makes me feel ill. Smiley sad

I think you need to take your dog to the vet just in case there is more damage than what you think. The vet will more than likely let you do a payment plan for the bill. But if you know the person I would show them what their dog did to yours and make them pay the vet bill.

Yup, I agree with Kathy and others. Take him to the vet! My friend's dog was bitten by another dog and she thought it was just a small puncture wound. A couple days later her leg got all swollen and it turned out the leg was broken.

I have two shih tzu and I may sound parniod but I always take them to vet even if I see a bump on their body or see a bite or a cut. I take them to vet asap. Vets are mostly understanding and they will do anything to help the animal that they are willing to do payment plans.

I would try to estimate his pain. My dog got bit by a dog when I was taking him for a run. I know the people, and the dog is a golden retriever, and we just scared him as we came around the corner running. My dog was so funny because he just sat down after he got bit and looked at the other dog like, "Why would you do that?" LOL. He only had a very small puncture. I know the people and know that they're very responsible with their dogs' shots and vaccines and my dog is up to date so I wasn't too worried. I just cleaned it out and kept an eye on it. I did take pictures of it just in case something were to happen-like if it got infected. The owner of the other's person's dog who bit yours should be offering to pay for the vet bill. The owner of the one bit mine assured me to go to her if anything happened. Most of the times when dogs bite it's out of fear, not viciousness.
