We were invited to a self hosted, 29th birthday at the couples home this weekend. It was a FB invite, very casual... Singlet and thongs kind of event.

Yesterday, I get a post notification from the birthday boys fiance saying: "Can you please bring cash as gifts, to help us finish our car modifications. Please dont bring alcohol as gifts as it will not get used. Thanks".

Ummm... WHAT?! Firstly, you're an adult. Do not expect gifts from anyone. Secondly, do not TELL me what I can bring, if I happen to choose to bring a gift!

Today, I get another post notification in the event.... "Remember guys, it's BYO alcohol and please bring money for pizza!"

What would you do? Would you bring "cash" as they so bluntly put it? I was going to get a nice bottle of wine and a card, now I'm considering skipping the gift all together!

    Decline. By 29 your friends should know how to properly host a party.

    I would change my acceptance to a decline and tell them exactly why. I can get better pizza and the beverage of my choice at home just fine, thanks. Plus I won't be asked to fund someone else's project car. >_>;;;

    I wouldn't even go! It's bad enough they told you what's acceptable for a gift but you really lost me at byob and bring money for pizza. C'Mon now this isn't a high school party, they need to be providing food and drinks for the guests. If not you might as well stay home and get takeout with fh or go on a date night together. That'd be money better spent

    I probably wouldn't go unless it was my best friend, but she has more sense and wouldn't host so poorly. I'd just rather have a pizza and BYO wine night on my couch with DH.

    I wouldn't go - but if I did I'd get a 99¢ card.

    I would stay home and have my own Pizza and alcohol.

    If you really want to see your good friends go but don't take a card or present for the birthday boy. He can get a verbal happy birthday acknowledgement and then go hang out with the other friends.

    I wouldn't go. That is about as crass as it gets.

    And I would be wondering why I was friends with people like this.

    Is the birthday boy's wedding also BYOB and only monetary contributions?

    I would go ONLY if you really wanted to see some friends that you hardly get to see. But no gift, I may contribute to pizza if I feel like eating their pizza choice and I would bring my choice of whiskey. Absolutely no gift, maybe a card..

    I think I would be skipping the party altogether. What a joke.

    That'd be a hard pass from me. What kind of adult even expects gifts at a birthday party anymore?

    WTF. You couldn't pay me to attend this party... but you'd actually be paying TO attend. Smiley smile Don't go!

    What. That is so tacky. No, I wouldn't gift cash... I don't know if I would even attend, tbh.
