Not So Great Weddings

Cassie, on July 10, 2017 at 4:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 91

Curious, what are some weddings that you have attended in the past that made you realize, nope, not making THAT mistake at my wedding!

Mine are (both were from the same wedding):

1. No microphones. It was outside. I couldn't hear ANYTHING. Literally, could barely hear the ceremony and then couldn't hear the reception speeches at all.

2. They had ONE food truck. For about 100 people. And there was no limit as to what people could order. We waited ONE HOUR in line for our food. ONE HOUR! I was furious and starving. And no, the food was not worth it.

There was a "dress code" of "Black tie optional". My date and I were the only ones who showed up in black tie attire and the wedding itself was not a black tie affair. Not a single black tie element, but I guess the "optional" should have given me a clue.

Not enough seats at the ceremony, cash bar!

ETA- Cash bar because people left the wedding venue to tailgate then came back in hammered. Many people drinking underage.

I barely remember this, because I was about 5 years old at the time, but one of my uncles had the bright idea to get married in a cornfield in upstate New York in January. There isn't any video of the ceremony because it was so cold the camcorder froze.

The food. I went to one wedding over 2 years ago where we thought it was going to be a buffet because there was no food option listed on the RSVP. Boy were we wrong! It was a seated dinner with a dish picked out by the bride a groom. It was a crab cake, vegetable medley, and chicken breast with gravy. About half of the plates went untouched either because of allergies or because they are vegan or vegetarian. No sweets not even wedding cake (they didn't even have a cake to cut) and there was table that I have seen at other options with cheese and crackers or some sort of small snack to hold you over. The bar was also watered down well booze.

No processional music. No one had bothered to test out the outlets for the boombox so everyone walked down the aisle with no sound/music. They tried playing a cellphone recording but it was YouTube so there were commercials. Also having a wedding outdoors in 90 degree heat and the ceremony running an hour late. Everyone's make up melted and no refreshments were offered. Or updates as to what was taking so long.

There was a lap dance done by the bride to the groom. Let's just say I got a vision of what may happen after the wedding.

The wedding was in 2004 in a restaurant with 40 guests. For entertainment the brides brother (7 ) played the trumpet ( he just started to learn). Later on the couple had a CD player on a table and everyone was supposed to dance around it.

At my friends wedding, her friends two boys ran a muck! They were running around the reception room at dinner annoying guests, they kept going up to the top table and messing with the wedding candles, they wanted to sit at the top table (they were no relation to the bride, just her friends kids, who"couldn't" find a babysitter) and threw a fit when they were not allowed. All the other children including the brides young daughters were as good as gold. I know the bestman had to get up during the meal and say something to the mother of the two boys. The bride was very annoyed!

Potluck wedding. Wedding where I was roped into Helping to decorate the ceremony space (bride was a friend of my FH, I never met her or anyone else at this wedding before). Wedding at campsite with 6 hour gap between ceremony and dinner and no lunch served or any planning for wedding guests for something to do.

A buffet with no vegetables... no salad, no mixed veggies... no meatless apps... nothing. Meat and mashed potatoes (technically a veggie).

Cake was served while we were out dancing and was then quickly cleaned up while we were still out dancing. Came back to the table and it was gone Smiley sad

July wedding, outside, extremely hot. It was at that point I decided I would never have a wedding (ceremony or reception) outside.

I've only had to fly to 2 weddings, which happened to be the worst hosted ones I've ever attended. We had to stop to get something to eat, after each of them. (And of course we gave a generous gift).

So after shelling out thousands for travel costs and gifts, we had to pay to feed ourselves.
