Not so grand exit?

Kendra, on March 12, 2017 at 9:21 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 52

I know a lot of people do big exits at the end of the reception with sparklers or whatever. Has anyone not done a grand exit? I kind of just want to leave...my mom even suggested changing out of my dress before we leave (we're spending our wedding night at a b&b). If we don't do some sort of exit, do I need to let everyone know that we're leaving? What have people done in the past?

Ooo, I like this question - that's something I hadn't thought about in my planning process yet. Following.

I don't think we are doing one. I honestly plan to stay until the whole thing is over

    Following...

I was thinking that just before the last song, we could grab a mic/thank everyone for sharing our day & announce that after the next song, we will be headed over to the hotel bar & everyone is welcome to join us. Towards the end of that song, we'd dance/trot out of the reception area & down the hall to the bar.

Note that we would also be going to the tables earlier in the evening to thank the guests on a more personal level.

ETA: Our reception will end at 10:30, so if we just stayed until everyone left...we'd be there all night. We only have a drink package for 4 hours, so 10:30 it is. Then off to the hotel bar afterwards (hotel venue-no driving needed).

You do need to hire/figure out who will pack up the centerpieces, etc afterwards if you are not doing that yourself.

You don't have to do a grand exit. You can have the DJ announce that "mr & mrs are starting their final round of goodbyes and thank you for celebrating their day with them." Are you leaving before the reception is over?

I'm staying until the end, and before I walk out I'm likely changing into a different, much less formal dress for the ride back to the hotel. Then we're doing an after party at the hotel pub. There will be no grand entrance or exit for us - we want as much time with our guests as we can enjoy!

I've seen the DJ announce that you're leaving and everyone can wave you off, even if you change first. Or if you want those pics, my friend left in the car, circled around and snuck in the front to get changed and left quietly

I wasn't planning on anything. I'll leave with everyone else when the DJ packs up and kicks us off the dance floor!

I couldn't even imagine trying to pull off while the party was still going on

We are not doing one and I have actually never seen one. From my experience people start to leave after last call and the bride and groom are usually the last to leave.

We are staying. We'll thank everyone at the end and then people will just head back to the hotel.

I don't know for sure if we are doing one. Sparklers always seem so fun, but I would be fine with not doing those either.

I plan to be the last one that leaves. So no grand exit here.

I hadn't planned on doing an exit, and we were just going to be the last to leave. However, my mom really wants us to do one, and our venue manager/caterer said that when couples don't do an exit, it is hard to get people to leave at the end, so we're undecided.

I'm definitely not going to do sparklers, because I don't trust our drunk friends with fire. We're probably going to do birdseed, maybe rose petals.

We didn't do one and I'm so glad! We stayed to the bitter end and our DJ announced that the last song was about to play so the last few people there gathered in a circle around us and at the end of the song they all collapsed in and gave us a huge group hug. It was so special!! I also got to thank my uncle and other people who stayed and helped clean up!

I think it is silly to have a grand exit after a reception. Most people have left by that time while the ones who haven't are too drunk to remember. I think it is much more meaningful to have a send off from the ceremony than from the reception.

We're just doing 1 shuttle bus as transportation. We'll all just leave on the bus together between last call round 9:15 and venue shutdown at 10pm.
