Not even a dollar dance.... a money boot

Mrs. A & J, on April 20, 2015 at 8:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 75

I attended a wedding this weekend. Maybe its all the time I've spent in here, but I was looking to be "properly hosted" (and I dont mean fancy/expensive....just, treat your guests well). If anyone remembers, this is the girl I posted about who had 2 showers and invited us to both.

So, her wedding was lovely. She looked beautiful. The food was delicious. No alcohol, which was a bummer for us. I'm not a huge drinker, but I enjoy a few glasses of wine to celebrate.

Then.....the DJ announced a money dance. Personally, they don't offend me. I think they can be cute. But this.....wasn't that. This was the MOH and BM going table to table, literally asking for money, while the DJ said "help them go on their honeymoon!". They aren't going on a honeymoon, FYI. When our table declined to give cash (because sorry, we've given a gift and we're kinda broke), the BM gave us a hard time. The bride and groom were not dancing with anyone during this time....it was literally a quick fundraiser. Ugh.

Oh, and the money was supposed to be put into a cowboy boot. Hence, money boot

I went to a wedding a few years back where something similar happened! Except it was a glass jar that they shook in your face so it jingled. Boundaries people. Haha

Haha wow. So they lie about what they're asking for money, and have a pressuring salesman/aka BM to guilt you when you don't give? Spendid!

Haha I remember that one with the two showers. Sounds like they really wanted money/gifts. I would have felt so uncomfortable.

Jaw hits the floor.... Wha-what???? The money dance used to be standard where I'm from and I thought it was fun. BUT, no dance? Just a 'give us money for the HM'.... AND there's not going to be one? I would have asked the MOH, "Where are they going for the HM, and when are they leaving?"

I went to one once where they "kidnapped" the bride and wouldn't give her back until they raised so much money. We all thought it was one of the weirdest and most awkward moments. Everyone just kind of sat there until we realized that the reception wasn't going to move forward until they got some money and some people pulled out some money. It was not fun or cute and we all talked about it afterwards.

I have seen this at country/cowboy weddings here in Alberta, a friend of mine is planning to do it and I can't seem to talk her out of it no matter what.

That's a new low! I'm used to the dollar dances and am not offended by them but...just wow! At least there's one on one time and a task involved with the dancing.

@#gonnabeahair MY FAMILY WANTS TO KIDNAP ME!

I'm like, arguing with them right now that I don't think it will go over well. They don't get it.

Wow. I was appalled by the boot fundraiser. I'm even more shocked by the kidnapping thing. That's a thing? I'm completely horrified.
