Not even a dollar dance.... a money boot

I attended a wedding this weekend. Maybe its all the time I've spent in here, but I was looking to be "properly hosted" (and I dont mean fancy/expensive....just, treat your guests well). If anyone remembers, this is the girl I posted about who had 2 showers and invited us to both. So, her wedding...

So, her wedding was lovely. She looked beautiful. The food was delicious. No alcohol, which was a bummer for us. I'm not a huge drinker, but I enjoy a few glasses of wine to celebrate.

Then.....the DJ announced a money dance. Personally, they don't offend me. I think they can be cute. But this.....wasn't that. This was the MOH and BM going table to table, literally asking for money, while the DJ said "help them go on their honeymoon!". They aren't going on a honeymoon, FYI. When our table declined to give cash (because sorry, we've given a gift and we're kinda broke), the BM gave us a hard time. The bride and groom were not dancing with anyone during this time....it was literally a quick fundraiser. Ugh.

Maybe they did call it passing the boot. I don't remember. I was scheming whether or not we could sneak in vodka to go with the lemonade Smiley winking

OMG.... I agree with Hawaii, I would have just left and taken my gift with me.... That is so inconsiderate. The guests already bring a gift the that you request them bring on your bridal registry. And, then to turn around and go table to table begging for money is just WRONG..... WHERE'S THE NEAREST EXIT....

As for the "kidnapping" that is so MAYBERRY... All I can say is that we would still be sitting there at the reception waiting for them to bring the bride back.... LOL

Just to beat a dead horse/continue my rant Smiley smile

If we had participated in every event related to her wedding, and gifted at every request, we would have given her: 2 shower gifts, 1 recipe, 1 "stock the pantry" gift, a bachelorette party gift, a wedding gift, and given cash. Juuuuuuuust saying

OMG that's appalling....I thought money dances were bad enough, but to literally collect money in a boot as though you're giving money to a fireman/police charity?!?!?!

I've heard of passing the boot (passing it around the ceremony hall for people to put money into, but don't have to of course, and no pressure ETA: it's passed through the rows by the guests, not a BM of GM shaking it in your face), but it happens after the ceremony as people are leaving for the reception, and I've heard of a dollar dance. I have not heard of a money-boot dance. lol That's pretty crazy, but not as crazy as ransoming the bride, omg who would think that's a good idea?!

I HAVE A CONFESSION. This happened at our wedding, but it wasn't planned in advance and one of the cousins did it. She did ask but I thought she meant something completely different. Luckily it happened super late at night and hardly anyone was still around to witness. I honestly didn't even notice while it was happening and we were presented with a boot later on...

Anyway I'm ashamed that it occurred.

The money dance is supposed to be for fun and not a damn fundraiser. Nobody should demand their guests to give out money. The kidnapping story is weird. What the hell is the world coming to?
