Non-Flower Boutonniere/Corsage options?

SXC, on March 28, 2013 at 1:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

So I was just thinking about all the brides that do the bouquets out of pins or other pretty sparkly things, but I wanted to see if anyone was doing anything really cool for corsages or boutonnieres. My mom has a condition where she's not really supposed to be around flowers and while I plan to have flowers at the wedding, having something strapped to her isn't probably a great idea so I'm hoping for some alternative ideas that could be used as a keepsake for the mom's and grandmas too.

We got brooches for the mothers instead of corsages.

Paper/origami, buttons, I've even seen Lego figures as bouts! You can find a lot over on Offbeat Bride.

For our moms, we did a variation of the picture below, since it was a December wedding.

I have two different ones, one for FH, and another for the rest of the guys.

FH LOVES golf, so I made him this golf tee bout. And the wedding has a lot of pinwheels, so these are made of felt. Smiley smile

For the moms, I got these pretty bauble bracelets. I haven't decided if we are doing anything for the grandparents yet. Mostly because there are a couple of aunts that feel they should be in the wedding, and would be pissed if they didn't have something too, so we may just stick to parents only.

You can always do wrist corsages with fabric and/or feathers and pearls/jewels. I'm using an old fashioned photo pin with our photos for the groom, guys & dads and wrist corsages for the ladies. Hope these give you some good ideas. You can check on Esty.com for many of them or pick up items at a store like Lobby Hobby and bring to your florist. Good luck!!

Here's more and keep in mind that you could use your old jewelry pieces and bracelets. You'll be surprised what you could find at home. Your florist could then put it all together for you.

Those are all great ideas. Personally I love the brooch cluster idea...but you can make SOOOOOOOOOOO many things...do you have a wedding theme?

I think I might look into the brooch idea, granted it'll likely be more expensive than flowers but if it's only for the MOB & MOG we might be able to get by. No theme yet, I haven't even technically figured out our colors though I don't think I'm going to pick just 1-2 primary colors. I'm thinking deep jewel tones, royal blue, plum purple, fuchsia and hints of silver bling. I'm not really craft and I'm the type that gets rid of stuff so I don't have these kinds of things laying around. Maybe I'll have to start hunting at antique stores now!
