Non-Conventional GETTING READY venues/places

Chica, on May 3, 2017 at 11:49 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

What are some non-conventional Getting Ready places? I have checked hotels and airbnb. But most of them have a lot of restrictions as to how many guest can be in the room. There are also late check in time (3pm-4pm) and early check out times 12pm. I don't know how strictly these policies are enforced, but I have to assume they are enforced.

We have 7 BM's, 7 GM's, FH, I, about 2 VIPS, MOG, MOB, 1 photographer, and 1 videographer. Initially, I thought we could get 2 suites for 2 nights from Oct. 19- Oct. 21. 1 for the GM and FH and 1 BM, I, the 2 VIPs, and 2-3 HMU ppl. The photographer and videographer would be in and out of both suites.

Anyhow, Im concerned about the above-mentioned policies and also the prices are insane here in NYC, even with a corporate discount. Any unconventional getting ready spaces?

I don't want to do my parents home bc of distance from venue on a Friday w/ traffic. So we need to be in either Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens,* or maybe even Long Island.

Plus the other con of getting ready in my mom's house is that where would FH and the GM get ready? It would have to be close enough so that the photographer and videographer could easily walk from one place to the other. My parents have a 2 floor house but the Bedrooms are upstairs. For it to work it would have to be 2 separate floors so that he wouldn't see me and vise versa. lol.

@LookYpTazGully you are welcome. This has really been stressing me out this week. I was so sure that I would just be able to get a hotel room, but am now having 2nd thoughts.

You should have a sit down convo with the hotel manager they will be the ones to tell you if you are able to do this. We are getting ready at a hotel ,but are reserving the night before too so we can assure that room is already ours and dont have to worry about check in times.

Does the entire wedding party want/need to stay over the night before? I would let them figure out their own accommodations.

@Courtney it would be very difficult here in NY for a hotel manager to agree to do anything other than the hotel policy dictates. I wish I could in that case I would just want 2 suites from like 10am- 4pm bc our wedding is at 6:30pm. We really don't need it for more than that. No one plans on staying the night. It will literally be for getting ready photos and the comfort of the space. Due to the inconvenient check in and check out times I would need to book 2 nights x 2 suites= very expensive in prime season in October. But also a lot of the hotel policies dictate that there can be no more than 5 ppl in the room and no events lol. Im unsure that getting ready is an event. But Im sure there will be more than 5 ppl in my room. lol.

Is there a bridal suite at your venue? Do you plan on traveling to hair and makeup, or for them to come to you?

@CMC no the WP is not staying at the hotel neither am I or FH. The hotel will literally be empty the entire night. We will only be using it on the day of the wedding Oct. 20 from about 10am/11am through 4pm when we set out to take WP photos. The hotel will only be used for getting ready. But I do want my BP to get ready with me. I think its important for them too, as it has always been the norm in our social circle.

Regarding bridal suite at our venue yes there is one but it is too tiny for the size of my BP. Hair and Makeup is coming to me so yeah more ppl. in the room. lol

It seems silly to pay so much for a hotel just for a few? hours to get ready so I see where you're coming from. I'm drawing a blank though, I've only really heard of people getting ready at the venue, at a hotel, or their house/parents' house. I'm not sure if you're going to be able to find another space for this purpose

@CMC haha you totally get my point. It seems super silly. Right now I'm looking at $1200-$1600 just for getting ready "space" 2 suites for 2 nights and this is with a corporate discount. This is something I didn't give much thought before. I just always assumed I would get a hotel until now. lol. I do wish the bridal suite at my venue was bigger. Literally only the bride and maybe 1-2 other ppl. can fit in there comfortably and for such a high end venue and big venue space they could have made the bridal suite much bigger than it is. Ugh no idea what to do. Thanks for your input. Like you I have only seen people get ready at their parents house, hotel, or the bridal suite.

Check out peerspace.com. They have a lot of hourly rentals that often offer views and are nice

@Rachel may I ask what hotel you are using in the Financial District? I taketh that is what you mean by FiDi. I really like that the manager showed you around. I would love to find a hotel room where the manager is friendly enough to show me around and knows ahead of time the type of event I am booking the room for. Regarding adjoining rooms I would totally do that. But that is one of those things that it is better to see in person than to see online and book in the dark.

@Baletica omg thank you so much. An hourly rental may be exactly what we need.

Hi Chica! Try asking hotels about renting smaller conference rooms for the day instead of suites! The conference rooms might actually have more space for you guys to get ready, and you can coordinate with the hotel and your hair and makeup team to make sure that you have enough chairs and things!

So, I heard about an app called "Recharge" on the news the other day. It lets you rent a hotel room by the hour. I believe it is in NYC. I can't make any comments on how it works or if it is/is not shady.

Here's a news story about it:

    ETA; App Site- https://recharge.co/

I can't completely tell if it is in NY or still just testing.

Could you possibly reserve a small conference room? Due to the amount of girls (7 BMs, 2 Moms, 1 Aunt) plus makeup and hair people--the hotel is allowing us to use a conference room. It cost me about 200.00 for 4-5 hours I think.

I got ready at my hotel- I stayed with my best friend the night before- and we moved my stuff up to the suite where I would be staying that night into the next day. I wouldn't be trying to get ready anywhere else- not worth it.

LOL_ kitty- the only hotels that rent by the hour in NJ are not ones you want to be in unless you're hammered and trying to find a place to fuck that simply qualifies as "not your car"

@S&J oh wow $200 is not bad at all. Although, I would need 2 conference rooms, 1 for the women, and 1 for the men, this way the photographer and videographer can capture both moments. May I ask where you are located? I am in NY.
