No wedding cake!

Raven, on October 26, 2018 at 10:17 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 47
Hey guys!

So me and my FH are not big sweet people! He actually hates cakes/cupcakes/desserts haha (weird I know)..I don’t mind them but I’m more of a savory person.

We have decided not to get a wedding cake or any dessert. Guest will still enjoy dinner and the open bar. But no cake or dessert will be served. This has saved us a lot of money too!

But now my/and his family is telling me I “must” have cake/cupcakes at the wedding (apparently it’s a law haha). I’m still not budging we are solid in our decision ☺️

Is anyone else not having wedding cake?

I think it’s ok to not have cake, but I’ve never been to a wedding that didn’t serve dessert at all. People look for dessert at weddings and I think it’s strange to not have one.

I do think most of your guests will be expecting some sort of dessert. So be prepared for a lot of disappointment from your guests. But hey it's your wedding!

I think it might be good to still have some kind of dessert option. It doesn't have to be something really sweet, I've seen people do scones and things like that before and it's worked out. I don't think guests necessarily expect wedding cake since a lot of brides have deviated from that, but a reception typically does include some kind of dessert. Your wedding, your ideas, just something to consider Smiley smile

I would have some kind of dessert, or even a late night snack. It could be a mixture of things, some sweet & some savory? I've seen regular desserts along with chicken & waffles, pretzel bites, pizza, mini milkshakes, donuts, a charcuterie board, etc.

Agree with PP, I think it's okay not to have cake, but you should offer some kind of dessert.

Yeah, I’ve never heard of no dessert period. I think that’s very odd and I think your guests will be looking for desserts. What kind of snacks are you two into?

Definitely don’t need cake, but you definitely should have dessert.
We skipped cake but offered a berry shortcake bar for dessert (variety of berries, biscuits, fresh whipped cream). It was a HUGE hit. So many guests were looking for a sweet treat after dinner— it’s just part of a hosted meal.

You need to have a dessert... Sorry, that's my opinion.

I am not a sweets person either - and neither is my FH. At weddings, we are usually too busy drinking and dancing and never touch the dessert table. However - just because you don't like something, doesn't mean that you should not offer it to your guests. We are going super cheap on desserts, offering mini cupcakes, mini pies, and maybe some cookies or something else? We aren't sure yet and its super low on my list of priorities. I've called a few places for pricing but I have not put in any orders. I might just have my FFIL go by costco and pick up some random desserts and call it a day.

I'd still have something. Most guests look for dessert. Cakes are expensive so you will still save money skipping it but I'd offer something. What about a candy bar? You can do sweets and sours and chocolate covered pretzels, etc. Or a trail mix bar? So it's a mix of sweet and savory and people can make their own trail mix. This worked great at a wedding I went to last year! Trail mix and candy are pretty inexpensive and they'd satisfy your guests.

You’re welcome. Cookies 🍪 are a VERY affordable option. You could get them at Sam’s Club or Costco!

How about a trail mix bar? They could create their own.
