We had assigned tables but you could always just have a sign that says open seating.
Or here are some cutesier ones

We went to a wedding last night and there were placecards for us with no table number on it, just our names, we figured it out. No signs needed - I say this with love: Don't over think it!

For the ceremony we are not having assigned seating. We brought one of the signs that says "Pick a seat, not a side"/ For reception I am still debating if I want assigned seating.
