What do you think about this article? They say 64% of American women are overweight and that you never see plus size models in wedding dresses. The comments are kind of ignorant, but the article makes a great point.

But, here is the difference: the market for plus-size women looking to spend $3,000 or more on a Lanvin jersey dress for the office is only a fraction of the size of plus-size women looking to spend $3,000 or more on a wedding gown. Considering that more than 64 percent of women in the U.S. are overweight, and that wedding gowns range from $300-$30,000, my argument is that it simply makes SENSE to showcase on the runway how these gowns might look on body types that will actually buy them.

In my city, I went to 4 different dress shops and all had sample dresses that ranged from size 12 to 18, but yet the models on their website were all a size 4 to 6. I am a size 4 and ended up purchasing a size 6 to ensure the dress could be altured properly, and found (even though my situation was diffferent but the same) it difficult to "visualize" what I would look like. just IMO, it would be nice to see magazines and bridal shops cater to all body types and have a range of sizes....granted I know this would be expensive to have 2 or 3 samples of each along with the advertizing, but this would be ideal in our dream world of wedding planning.

Yea it kind of sucks....Im a size 14 and had a hard time finding a dress....most of the dresses that i tried on didnt seem to be the right size meaning it said 14 but was a 6. It was so hard but I got lucky and found a simple dress that I love. I Love my body and it was kind of sad that not many places had the right sizes but Davids Bridal was awesome....I wouldnt advise anyone to buy a dress online because some of those sizes run really small.

From a Designer's perspective, I totally agree! The average US woman is a 12/14 which makes the Sample Size 8's that most stores ask for a little ridiculous considering.

BUT the Plus Size Specialty Stores want everything to go up to a 30 or they won't order our Plus Lines... the largest professional mannequin made is a 20 so we can only make samples up to a 24 which means the Plus Stores wont order our Plus Line at all.... this is why many Designers in all areas of Fashion end up abandoning plus lines as a money drain.

Not having display mannequins available at the Wholesale Shows makes it rough for us to get the message across to Store Buyers and the Press, and Huffington Post Weddings called us all out for it a few weeks ago. I know. Some of us are trying!

On the positive side? My Custom Order Brides in the Size 14-24 range can get absolutely anything they want made to order in any color, fabric, style, and don't have to deal with additional alteration headaches Smiley smile

Can I put a "tiny" spin on this? What's up with the "plus size " models not being the real world "plus size women"? That ticks me off. I know I'm plus sized, but the models generally have wider hips but still flat(er) stomachs, no rolls, stretchmarks, lumps or bumps. When I look at a clothes ad, I wanna see what it REALLY will look like on plus size, not on a wider frame. So that I won't be disappointed when I go to try on the same outfit as the "plus size model" and be upset because my rolls are showing and they didn't on the model lol Sorry for the rant!

All the headaches I have just read from you ladies is exactly why we opened our doors. We have plus-size mannequins, plus-size women in the pictures on the website, and sizes 16-30 In stock in our store. We were also frustrated that holding up a dress will not give you the correct fit for how it will look on your body.

@ Miss Seams- yes, we do want things to go up to a 30, because after all the trouble people have finding a dress that they love, I don't want to say- sorry, it doesn't come in your size! I want to say YES, we can get that for you!!

I enjoyed my dress shopping experience, and didn't have to go to David's to do it. And i think the dress looks better on me than stick figure girl.. and totally different! I do hate that I wore a size 14 street size and I had to order a 16. I've worked hard to get down from a size 24 to where I'm at, that was a blow to my ego for sure Smiley sad

That being said, we plus size girls seem to not have so great a body image, so that can be even worsened when trying on dresses that are made to fit size 2 and 4 bodies. On the other hand, I have a lot of friends who have the opposite problem... they're too skinny for XS and 0 and 2 clothes. Guess the grass is not always greener! At least we have tata's to fill out those bodices ladies! Smiley smile

Mrs. S To Be-Don't feel bad about sizes. Vanity sizes has all of us screwed. No one knows their true size anymore. Did you know women who wear a size 12 today cannot fit into a true size 12 from years ago? There was a special on Dr. Oz where he went and bought 3 pairs of jeans in the same size from three different stores. None of them had the same measurements. One was drastically bigger than the other.

So don't focus on the number. Focus on how you feel. I'd rather say I'm a size 16 and healthy than a size 00 with issues. ^_^ You look stunning in your dress!
