How do you politely state on invitations that we prefer no kids or plus ones? (outside of couples we are already inviting)

I did what many others suggested, we addressed all our invitations to "mr & mrs" and everyone in any type of relationship got a plus one... even tho many didn't think they would. But I had it happen to me when FH and I were dating a year, and living together, and I was FURIOUS i wasn't invited, you can't judge another couples level of "seriousness" and you can't say "but I have never met him/her"

As far as kids, we have a bunch of OOT guests who have children under 16, which was our cut off, and we states on our wedding website: "as much as we love our youngest cousins, we would prefer our reception be adults only. We would love to accommodate anyone who needs a local babysitter, please leave a comment at the end of your RSVP so we can make sure we have a location, and enough sitters, for everyone!"

Also we are doing our RSVP's online so only listing the names of the people invited.

No nice way to say it. Unfortunately everyone can't be invited.

Everyone has their own opinion... But it is our wedding. If they felt it was rude then don't come. We know our family and had to put it. In fact less than half of them felt the need to rsvp... Sorry but im not paying for 30 kids to come to a small wedding with less than 50 adults. Our wedding our way. Just like every couples wedding should be.
